Our Prep students loved our excursion to the Royal Botanic Gardens! They did a fantastic job learning about plants and how we can protect our environment. They spent time making cubbies, planting seeds and going on a tour around the gardens. It was wonderful to see them all so engaged and eager to learn! This excursion helped consolidate knowledge we learnt in our English unit Taking Care of the Earth.
This week, our Year One students enjoyed hands-on Respectful Relationships lessons focused on playing fairly. They learned how rules create fair and fun games, how unfair play can cause conflict, and the importance of boys and girls participating equally in a friendly way. Through engaging activities, students reflected on their actions and how to contribute to positive interactions. These lessons are helping to build stronger relationships and foster an inclusive, respectful classroom community.
Our Year 2 students have been learning about how to be a good team player during our Circle Solutions lessons. They identified what behaviours show good collaboration skills and which behaviours do not. They have also been applying these skills and behaviours while playing various collaborative games. Here are some snapshots of them applying these skills in action!
This term, Year 3 students participate in Humanities and English units about The Vikings. During these units, students learn about Norse mythology. Last week, students had the opportunity to learn about pyrography - an ancient craft dating back several centuries. They learnt to safely use the equipment to burn their wood as well as use a hammer and nails. Check out these incredible works of art!
On Tuesday of Week 7, Year 5 students eagerly participated in a Parliament Process In-Visit, where they were introduced to the key aspects of government and democracy. The students engaged in interactive activities, such as debates, voting, and learning about the roles of parliamentarians and the process of passing laws. They developed a deeper understanding of how decisions are made in the country and the importance of active citizenship. The event allowed for critical thinking and teamwork, as students worked together to understand the challenges and responsibilities of governing.
On Friday the 29th of November, Year 5 students had an exciting and action-packed day at the Beach Volleyball Gala Day at South Melbourne Beach. The event provided an opportunity for students to showcase their teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship skills while enjoying the sunny outdoor setting. They learned the fundamentals of beach volleyball, including passing, serving, and setting. The students cheered each other on, celebrated their successes, and supported each other through challenges.
The Year 6 students had a wonderful day at their very first Beach Volleyball Gala Day on Friday. They arrived with excitement and determination, ready to make the most of their day at the beach. From the moment they stepped onto the sand they were fully committed to giving it their best. Throughout the day, the students worked as a team, practicing their teamwork skills, and demonstrating excellent communication skills. By staying positive and focused, the students represented our school proudly. They treated each other with kindness, respected the event and its organisers, and showed great sportsmanship in both victory and defeat. As this was their last primary school Gala Day, we hope it becomes a cherished memory for them.
