Lexie Heinrich - National Finalist in Meat Sheep Judging at the Royal Melbourne Show
HSC Agriculture student Lexie Heinrich will head to the Royal Melbourne Show during the upcoming school holidays to compete in the National Final of the Meat Sheep Judging Competition. Lexie qualified for this prestigious level of the competition after winning the State Final at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show last year. Lexie has developed a keen eye for judging livestock and a polished style when justifying her placing on the microphone. This journey started when Lexie and her fellow Primary Industries classmates participated in competitions at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show in 2022 and Lexie placed fourth in the State Final of the Meat Sheep Judging. Building on this experience, Lexie has competed in the State Final of Dairy Cattle Junior Judging at the Sydney Royal Easter Show for the past two years, placing 4th in 2023. We wish Lexie all the best as she prepares for the upcoming National Final of Sheep Meat judging.
Year 7 - 9 Girls Football
On Tuesday 10 September, the Year 7-9 girls and boys football teams began the journey to Wagga Wagga at 6:30am. The boys were dropped off at the oval to play and the girls headed to another oval to prepare for their first game at 11:10am.
Starting with a quick warm up run by Grace, and words of encouragement and game plans from Miss Thompson and Miss James, the girls then started the game. The first team they faced was St Francis, followed by Xavier. After a lunch break and quick kick of the footy, they played their final game against Mater Dei. Unfortunately for the girls, their games didn’t quite go in their favour, with the final scores being 62-0, 81-0 and 79-0.
At one stage, a girl from Xavier yelled out to her team “does anyone need a break” as there wasn’t much going on down our end so Miss Thompson thought this would be good motivation to get the girls fired up. The team gave it their all and there were some amazing moments. Bella Kendrick had some great tackles, Ruby Reardon showed off some great skills throughout the game, whilst Charlie Martin was regularly bombing the ball 40m+ from the kickouts. There were many great passages of play throughout and the girls managed to get 12 kick marks which the coaches were very happy with.
Despite the opposition being so tough, our girls did manage to get the ball into our forward 50 a few times! After the final game, we got back onto the bus and headed straight for McDonald's to meet up with the boys. Everyone got some food and then we started the journey back home to Moama, arriving at 6:30pm. The girls all played so well and it was an overall fun day. A big thank you to Miss Thompson and Miss James who were amazing coaches and made a great day for everyone!

Year 9 PASS Camp
Over the past two weeks, our Year 9 PASS students embarked on an exciting Murray River Journey camp. This experiential learning opportunity allowed them to apply their Year 9 PASS knowledge in a practical setting. Demonstrating impressive grit and perseverance, the students tackled a challenging 75km mountain bike ride, followed by a 30km canoe journey down the Morning Glory River Resort the next day. They relished the sunny weather during their 36km canoe trip home, making the most of their experience!
Shearing Sheep
The school sheep were shorn recently. Year 9 Agriculture and Year 11 Primary Industry students learned how to throw the fleece, skirt the wool, backline for external parasites and befriend the shearer’s kelpie pup! A big thank you to Mark Connors for shearing our sheep again. We appreciated Mark generously giving up his time to set up his equipment, demonstrating his professional skills and sharing his knowledge.
Year 11 Advanced English
Play On
His unkindness may defeat my life
But never taint my love
Shakespeare's Othello is an enduring tale of jealousy, betrayal and human behaviour. Despite the tragic ending, the Year 11 Advanced English students have brought the work to life last week with gusto and panache.
