Allied Health Update

Return to School

We are thrilled to welcome our students back to school after the break! The return has been smooth, and it’s wonderful to see everyone settling in so well. Our students have quickly gotten back into their routines, showing enthusiasm and a positive attitude towards their learning. The classrooms are buzzing with energy, and it's clear that our community is as strong as ever. Our allied health team have been working closely with each other and the classroom to support our students return to school. We look forward to a fantastic year ahead, filled with growth, new opportunities, and continued success for all our students!

Sensory Profiles & Zones Of Regulation

This term, we are running a number of sessions for staff regarding self regulation. This is to support students to be calm and able to learn, and to help them learn how to manage with increased independence. Our next session is around understanding of both our own, and our students’ sensory traits/preferences and what this can look like. It aims to provide more learning friendly experiences at school. We will discuss how sensitivities and low registration can impact how we perceive our bodies and the world around us. The aim is to help students link making sense of the messages their bodies give them (interoception), and eventually link these to emotions. It is anticipated that this learning will help toward use of existing tools and programs such as Zones of Regulation, and encourage development of new tools to build independence to self regulate.

External Therapists

Moving forward, Catherine Price will be providing invaluable support to Hamlyn Views School by organizing external therapist visits. Understanding the importance of collaboration and timely interventions, she will coordinate and manage these external services to complement the school's schedules & programs. Catherine works two days a week at Hamlyn Views School and will ensure that she replies to these requests in a timely manner during her days at our school.

Creative Learning Partnership Grant

Hamlyn Views School has been the successful recipient of the Creative Learning Partnership grant this year. We are receiving $35,000 to work with our community creative partner Bluebird Foundation (Music Space) to deliver a creative project.

Our senior students will work with artists from the Bluebird Foundation to explore their emerging identity as young adults and school leaders through music, collaborative songwriting, dance, and video making. Guided by student voice, this project aims to capture students’ connections to the school, the campus grounds and their hopes and dreams beyond the school, culminating in a music video with an original song that celebrates student agency and inclusivity, which will be shared with community.

The Creative Learning Partnerships program is a partnership between Creative Victoria and the Department of Education. It has run in Victoria for more than 40 years. We can't wait to be a part of this amazing program. The artists will be visiting our school weekly from term 2. We can't wait to share more news with you soon.
