Purple PLC

What a wonderful start to the year our Junior Years students are having. They've transitioned back to school with enthusiasm and are incorporating daily routines to support their learning at school.

For the first few weeks of school, students participated in the Bright Beginnings program. This program encourages teachers to explicitly set routines, develop schedules, focus on wellbeing, get to know each student and their interests/motivators and re-introduce our school-wide positive behaviour support program and zones of regulation.

Our Lenny Learner's in the Purple PLC have been working through our English, Maths, Geography and Respectful Relationships curriculum for the later part of this term.

In English, students have a range of learning opportunities provided for them with a focus on phonics, listening and attending to stories, alphabet rhymes and songs, selecting images for their writing and using software to produce writing.

The Maths curriculum in Term 1 is looking at number names and matching numerals and names, finding quantities of numbers, sequencing numbers in everyday situations, 2D and 3D shapes, calendars, time and duration of time.

In Geography this term we are looking at special places and building connections to the environment around us. We've done treasure hunts around the school looking in familiar locations for the hidden green sheep and are exploring the school spaces.

Our Respectful Relationships unit for this term carries on from the Bright Beginnings program with a focus on emotions and building emotional literacy. Our students have been exposed to what different emotions we can feel and how our body might react when we're feeling a certain way.

With only a few weeks left of term 1, we are all looking forward to the school wide celebrations beginning with Harmony Day on Friday the 21st. Students will be able to dress in orange or traditional cultural dress to celebrate the cultural diverseness we are lucky to have here in Australia. Parents are more than welcome to join us from 9:15am - 9:45am in the Middle Years playground for our celebration and song performance.

We will finish the term with an Easter hat parade on Friday the 4th of April, more information will be sent home shortly regarding this.

Thanks,

Amy Booker
