This week, the Prep students had so much fun exploring the Element of Art: Colour. In their previous lesson, they discovered how various types of lines evoke different emotions, experimenting with a range of oil pastel hues on their pages. During this week's lesson, they skilfully painted watercolours over their oil pastel lines, discussing the emotional connotations of different colours. Their dedication and effort shone through, resulting in stunning artworks. Well done, Preps!
This week, our Year 1 and Year 2 students have been practising their bowling technique to hit the stumps in cricket. First, we practised how to throw and catch in different ways including: bounce catching, throwing and catching and one hand catching. Then, we practised our underarm bowling technique with a partner, by bouncing the ball into a hoop. Finally, we worked in small teams using an underarm bowl to hit the stumps. We had lots of fun practising hitting the wickets and working on our underarm bowling technique. Well done everyone!
In the Grade 3 and 4 Music Program our theme is “The History of Music Genres”.
Students have been learning about some of the major genres of music including Classical, Jazz and Funk.
For each genres covered so far, we have looked at some of the important composers/artists and pieces/songs. We have also examined the characteristics of the genres covered.
Students have learnt to play music from each of the genres on a variety of instruments including marimba, kalimba and bucket drums.
Our Year 5 topic for Environmental Education is "Our Local Environment". We have been learning about natural, built and managed features in our environment and went on a nature walk outside to see which ones we have around our school. Students were excited to spot lots of noisy miner birds. These are native birds who are very common around Melbourne. We then learned how natural features around us are used, such as the river, beach and trees.
Year 6 Students are doing gardening this term! In the last couple of weeks we have planted carrots and bean sprouts. Students have learned how to plant a seed and what it needs to grow. We have also been planning what to plant in our garden and how we might organise the planters around the space. We are excited for some work to be done in the garden to make more space for pots.
We have been the lucky recipients of two large ottomans which were donated by a local business. SMPS students have enjoyed the new additions to our library, they are a favourite spot for many to sit and read.
