Class Celebrations

Celebrating the growth in our wonderful children on each learning level...

Prep

Prep students have been working extremely hard to distinguish the differences between letters, words, and sentences. Throughout the week, students completed many challenging tasks such as sorting letters, words, and sentences and blending letters to read a word or sentence. All Prep students got to write a sentence for the first time this school year! Students wrote a complete sentence explaining how to look after a book. We can’t wait to continue writing more sentences this school year!

Year 1

In Year 1 we have been reading the book 'The Proudest Blue' as part of our Harmony Week learning. Students engaged in a variety of activities including unpacking what harmony means and creating a 'Proud Cloud' to share things they are proud of. Below are some Year 1s creating their Proud Clouds!

Year 2

Our Year 2 students recently completed a creative and meaningful activity where they decorated a person to represent their unique cultural background. This allowed the children to explore and express their culture through vibrant colours, patterns, and symbols. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to share their cultural stories and celebrate diversity within our school community!

Year 3

Over the past week, our Year 3 students have achieved wonderful things! They completed their first ever NAPLAN, and we couldn’t be prouder of their hard work and determination. They practised their skills, embraced challenges with a growth mindset, and gave it their best efforts!

We also celebrated Harmony Day, recognising the diverse cultures in our community. It was wonderful to see students in cultural outfits, sharing traditions, and learning from one another. It was a fantastic celebration of inclusivity and belonging.

Year 4

In Year 4, we have been exploring angles. Students learned about different types of angles, their sizes and their names. They then practiced identifying them in various shapes and objects. A highlight for many was learning how to measure angles using a protractor. To finish off our angles lessons, the students got creative by finding the angles in the letters of their names, measuring them, and labeling them accurately. It was fantastic to see students making connections between angles and the world around them - "now I get why a flip is called a 360!" was heard in one class!

Year 5

We are incredibly proud of our amazing Year 5 students for completing their NAPLAN tests with determination and focus. Their commitment to preparing and striving for their best in each test is truly commendable. Fantastic job, Year 5! To celebrate their hard work and dedication, we enjoyed some well-deserved extra playtime in the sunshine.

In Humanities, our Year 5 students have been working diligently to create their products for the Year 5 South Melbourne Primary School Market. They have applied their learning from our Personal and Social Capabilities lessons, demonstrating strong teamwork and goal-setting skills. Their collaboration and dedication have resulted in some truly amazing products, which they are excited to showcase to the rest of the school. Well done, Year 5!

Year 6

As we near the end of our study of The Wizard of Oz, the students have been eagerly comparing the book with the movie. It’s been wonderful to see their excitement as they discuss the differences and similarities between the two versions! We’re looking forward to the upcoming class debate on which was better: the movie or the book. The students have been gathering their thoughts and arguments, and we expect a lively discussion!

On Friday, the students took part in an exciting Wizard of Oz-themed escape room challenge. They had to crack codes, solve puzzles, and collect items from the characters to escape the land of Oz. We were so proud to see everyone work collaboratively and demonstrate their excellent teamwork skills.
