Weekend Rec Activities
Weekend 3 - Swimming at Malabar Beach
The wind was up but the sun was out as we headed to Malabar Beach for a fun afternoon in the late summer sun. Girls enjoyed the warm water and tried their best in some frisbee despite the wind trying to interfere. Some rock pools were explored and tans worked on before heading off to McDonalds. The girls were very happy with the pit stop enjoying ice creams and other snacks. The bus trip back was a music filled adventure with classic party bus tunes such as California Girls, YMCA and Best Song Ever being sung by all!
Kambala Boarders Paddle into Adventure at Rose Bay
On Sunday 23 February, the Kambala Boarders set out on another exciting recreational outing, this time kayaking in the beautiful waters of Rose Bay. Despite a little wind adding an extra challenge, the girls didn’t let it dampen their spirits. Laughter echoed across the bay as they paddled together, navigating the gentle waves and enjoying the stunning harbour views.
For many, it was a chance to try something new, while others showed impressive skills, gliding effortlessly across the water. Teamwork was on full display as the girls encourage one another, shared tips, and embraced the adventure with plenty of smiles and splashes along the way. The water was crystal clear and the perfect temperature for swimming which meant many spent more time in the water than on the kayaks.
After working up an appetite, the group headed into Rose Bay for some well-deserved treats. From fresh sushi to crispy chips and other delicious bites, everyone found something to enjoy while relaxing and reflecting on the morning's fun.
It was another wonderful day of connection, adventure, and making memories — a perfect reminder of how rewarding it can be to step outside and embrace the opportunities around us.
Saturday Sport
School Touch Captain Polly (Y12) and Eva (Y10) attended the NSW State U18 Touch Cup in Wagga in week 2. Representing Easts, Polly and her team made it all the way to the final and ended the tournament in second place. Polly received the Players Player Award for her team and scored off a great intercept try in the Grand Final to get her team on the scoreboard. Amazing result Polly. Eva (Y10) also attended the tournament in the U16 grade and enjoyed the experience.
Lilly (Yr 10), Eve (Yr 10) and Taylor (Yr 12) all had wins at their Touch games in week 3.
Frankie (Yr 11) managed to get Player of the day even though she was feeling unwell throughout the match - great effort Frankie.
In week 4, Holly (Yr 7) had a great win in water polo. Her and Izzy (Yr 8) are thriving in all things swimming! Victoria U (Yr 9) enjoyed a great win at tennis on Saturday too.
Events
Swimming Carnival
One of the most anticipated events of the annual school swimming gala was the Boarders vs. Day Girls Relay, where each team featured one swimmer from each year group competing in a 50m freestyle race. The entire boarding house gathered poolside to cheer on their swimmers, creating an electrifying atmosphere and proving to be the most enthusiastic supporters at the event. Although the boarders narrowly missed victory against a strong day girls' team, they proudly claimed the Best Team Spirit award.
To cap off the day, the Year 12s took on the teacher relay team, with the much-anticipated fifth-leg showdown between Polly and Mrs. Andrew delivering a thrilling and competitive finish. The boarding house was well represented throughout the event, led by our dedicated Year 12 Prefects, who participated in numerous races.
It was a fantastic celebration of teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit—well done to all swimmers!
Fernbank Fun
Head Boarder Ava & Deputy Head Boarder Hilary (Yr 12) got up extra early on Friday February 14 to put out some gorgeous little gift bags with a chocolate love heart for all the girls. The girls loved waking up to their Valentine's Day treat. The image included is a very happy Micaela (Yr 9) and Maggie (Yr 7). It was “Galentine’s” at its best!
Badminton has quickly become the junior girls favourite activity to fill a quiet hour. The games are filled with laughter and a little healthy rivalry too! Making use of the Fernbank front lawn this Saturday’s matches made the most of the spectacular February weather.
Movie nights are common on Saturday nights, with this weekend being no different. The junior girls gathered in the common room for a viewing of Disney’s The Descendants. Popcorn and lots of singing along to the musical tracks made it a fun (and loud!) night for all.
