At Wimba Primary School, we believe that every child deserves a great education in a supportive and engaging environment. Our teachers use proven, research-based approaches to make learning meaningful, ensuring all students can grow and succeed.

On this page, you’ll find information about what and how your child is learning. From building strong foundations in reading, writing, and maths to encouraging curiosity and problem-solving, we focus on making learning engaging and accessible for all. Our teachers work closely together to continually improve their practice, ensuring that every student gets the support they need.

We are proud to partner with families in their child’s learning journey and look forward to celebrating their progress together.

Elements of Learning & Teaching

Wimba adopts the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM) 2.0 to provide a clear framework to ensure high-quality learning and teaching across our school. It is structured around two key areas: Elements of Learning and Elements of Teaching.

Elements of Learning -What do students experience?

These elements focus on how students engage with learning and develop essential skills for success:

- Motivation & Engagement: Students feel connected to their learning and are encouraged to be curious and persistent.

- Learner Agency:  Students take ownership of their learning and make choices about their learning.

- Self-Regulation & Metacognition: Students develop strategies to reflect on their learning, manage challenges, and improve their thinking.

- Disciplinary Knowledge & Skills:  Students build strong knowledge and skills in different subjects.

- Transfer & Generalisation: Students apply what they have learned to new situations and real-life problems.

Elements of Teaching - What do teachers do to support learning?

These elements ensure that teaching is effective, engaging, and tailored to student needs:

- Curriculum Planning & Implementation: Teachers plan and deliver structured lessons aligned with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0.

- Instructional Practice:  Teachers use research-based strategies to make learning clear, engaging, and accessible.

- Assessment & Feedback: Teachers assess student progress, provide meaningful feedback, and adjust their teaching to support all learners.

- Learning Environments: Teachers create safe, inclusive, and supportive classrooms where students feel confident to participate.

- Student-Teacher Relationships: Teachers build strong, positive connections with students to support their learning and wellbeing.

By focusing on both how students learn and how teachers teach, VTLM 2.0 ensures that every child at Wimba Primary School receives the best possible education. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this model in our classrooms!

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is approaching, and students in Years 3 and 5 will participate in the assessments this March. NAPLAN is an important nationwide assessment that helps measure students' skills in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar, and punctuation), and numeracy. These tests provide valuable insights into students' progress and help inform teaching and learning.

When is NAPLAN?

Students will complete their assessments on the following dates:

Year 5 – Wombat Portables (Room 3 & 4)

  • Wednesday 12th March – Writing (9:10 AM)

  • Thursday 13th March – Reading (9:10 AM)

  • Friday 14th March – Conventions of Language (9:10 AM)

  • Monday 17th March – Numeracy (9:10 AM)

Year 3 – Echidna Building (Room 5 & 6)

  • Wednesday 12th March – Writing (9:10 AM)

  • Tuesday 18th March – Reading (9:10 AM)

  • Wednesday 19th March – Conventions of Language (9:10 AM)

  • Thursday 20th March – Numeracy (9:10 AM)

How Will Students Complete the Tests?

  • Year 3 students will complete the Writing test on paper, while all other tests will be completed online.

  • Year 5 students will complete all assessments online.

Note Teachers will ensure students are well-prepared and comfortable with the test format.

What If My Child Is Absent?

If your child is absent on a test day, we may be able to arrange for them to complete the test later within the test window.

Supporting Your Child

While NAPLAN is an important tool, it is just one part of your child’s learning journey. We encourage students to approach the assessments with a positive mindset and do their best. A good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast can help set them up for success!
