Hola todos! Jess here! 

I am so excited to be at the helm of the library this year. I have been hard at work over the holidays—planning and ordering books. I contacted 250 new books! (Thanks also to Mel & Christina who helped me). The new space is refreshing and fun and has been really special to create.  Please pop in and say hello. It’s going to be a great year!

Classroom Highlights

The library is a safe, calm and welcoming space where our kids can come to read or just recharge at lunch time  Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Many kids from all grades have enjoyed their breaks here already. Thank you to Taylor, Sunny, Carolina & Xanthie and Leyla for being so helpful. The library will be open for families to borrow and browse on Wednesdays after school. Students will also have a chance to visit the library each week with their class teachers for borrowing.

Scholastic Book club

Scholastic book club catalogues should begin appearing in your kids’ bags. Orders close 17 February. 15% of the order total goes back into the school for us to buy resources. There are some new Dav Pilkey and Anh Do books which will definitely be popular.

Story Box Hub

A wonderful resource available free to all Newlands families is Story Box Hub which is a website offering short videos of current, prize-winning and diverse Australian kids books read by local authors, librarians and other famous faces. 

The app is a good one for guilt-free screen time.
