Allied Health Update

Communication Boards
Our dedicated speech pathologists at Hamlyn Views School have been busy printing and displaying core boards throughout the school environment. These boards, designed to support communication by providing access to essential words and phrases, are now visible in classrooms, hallways, and shared spaces. Students have been enthusiastically engaging with the boards, using them to express themselves, make choices, and connect with others. It’s been wonderful to see how these visual supports are promoting inclusive communication and helping every student find their voice.
Curriculum Day
Our recent Curriculum Day was a fantastic opportunity for professional growth and collaboration, with a special focus on enhancing our learning environment through allied health expertise.
This year, our dedicated allied health team led insightful presentations on several key topics that support our students’ wellbeing and engagement:
- Manual Handling: Practical techniques were shared to ensure safe and effective support for both staff and students.
- Using Boardmaker: Staff explored this versatile communication tool, discovering how it can be tailored to meet individual student needs and promote inclusive learning.
- Sensory Regulation: Presenters delved into sensory tools for addressing sensory needs, helping students achieve better focus and emotional regulation throughout the school day.
- Experiences So Far with The Song Room: Bingyao and The Song Room shared their plans to produce a music video, highlighting the positive impact on student motivation, communication, and social connection.
These sessions sparked valuable discussions and equipped our staff with new skills and resources to foster a supportive and accessible learning environment. We’re grateful to our allied health professionals for their expertise and ongoing commitment to our community’s success.
