Purple PLC

What a wonderfully busy and rewarding Term 2 it’s been so far in Purple PLC! Our students have embraced the many opportunities for growth and learning, and we’re so proud of the unique and meaningful ways they are demonstrating their understanding. Each day is filled with new discoveries, balanced by familiar routines that support comfort and confidence.
In English, we continue to focus on developing phonological knowledge, using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices alongside rich experiences such as mentor texts, music, and hands-on learning. Sensory play and craft are embedded throughout our daily lessons, and they remain a highlight for many students – providing both engagement and joy.
In Mathematics, our teaching has centred on helping students represent numerals using physical quantities. Building a strong understanding of number concepts and one-to-one correspondence is a vital skill, and it’s been fantastic to see the progress each student is making. Our teaching is grounded in current research, and we’re actively reflecting on and refining our practices to best support the way our students learn.
In Geography, students have been learning about the seasons and the changes in weather throughout the year. Each morning during our yarning circle, we explore the day’s weather and complete sorting and matching activities related to the seasons. Outdoor exploration remains a calming and regulating part of our day, and we’ve been observing the environment closely – noticing changes in the trees, the colours of the leaves, and whether it’s raining, cloudy, or sunny.
To support personal and social development, all classes continue to engage with The Resilience Project and Respectful Relationships programs. This term, we’ve been focusing on emotions – how they feel in our bodies, how to name them, and how to express them. These are complex skills, and our approach involves lots of modelling from staff, engaging resources like songs and videos, and giving students plenty of time and support to practise.
This term, our students also had the exciting opportunity to take part in a Song Room Dance Incursion. Each class spent time with a professional choreographer, learning and rehearsing the steps to their very own dance routine. The sessions were filled with music, movement, and laughter, and it was a joy to see the students expressing themselves through dance. The day culminated in a special performance where students proudly showcased their routines to an audience of parents and carers. It was a wonderful celebration of creativity, confidence, and community – thank you to everyone who came along to support our performers!
Looking ahead, we’re very excited to begin planning a Purple PLC excursion in Term 3! As a first step, we’ll be practising bus routines with students, including getting on and off safely and calmly. You’ll soon receive a bus checklist from our Allied Health team. We would really appreciate your input by completing and returning it to your child’s teacher – this will help us plan an inclusive and positive experience for all. If your child already catches the bus to school, you won't need to fill it ou
Thank you for your ongoing support and trust. We deeply value our partnership with you and look forward to continuing to share in your child’s learning journey in the second half of the year.
