Library Times
0A - Friday 1pm
0B - Thursday 1pm
0C - Friday 10am
In order to borrow a book students must return their 'old' library book (preferably on their library day) and bring a library bag.
Please keep returning the take home books that are given for home reading. Please return every Monday as we rely on getting them back to give to another class and other students. Thank-you for your understanding.
Every Friday we are alternating between SEPS Academy and Communities.
Numeracy
Over the past two weeks, our Foundation students have been busy consolidating their understanding of addition, subtraction, and the part-part-whole concept. We’ve now begun exploring teen numbers, with a strong focus on number formation and understanding the idea of ‘ten and…’. Using Unifix cubes, students have enjoyed physically building teen numbers and recording their findings through drawings.
In addition, students have been developing their understanding of positional language. Through hands-on activities and games, they have been learning to describe the position of objects using words such as in, on top of, beside, in front of, and behind. These experiences are helping to build their spatial awareness and language skills.
It’s been wonderful to see their confidence and curiosity grow. Keep up the great work, Foundation!
Literacy
In Week 8 we have been looking at 'ck' as in duck. The rule is we use 'ck' after a short vowel in a short word; such as 'dock, deck, chick, lock' etc. We are still reviewing 'ng' and 'nk'.
This week we have been learning the heart word 'saw' while consolidating 'like' and 'have'. Heart words are essential for students reading and writing success so feel free to practise them at home as much as possible.
In Week 8 we will continue to explore our fairytale 'Little Red Riding Hood' and will move onto 'Goldilocks'. We will also learn what a fractured fairytale is.
Reading Fluency Passage 'Deb the Vet': Encourage your child to read the passage aloud daily, focusing on accuracy, expression, and pacing.
Fluency Tip: After your child segments and blends individual words, please encourage them to reread the entire sentence smoothly. This practise helps build confidence and supports the development of natural reading fluency. These materials are excellent tools to reinforce the phonics skills we're working on in class.
Optional challenge: circle heart words on the passage, put a square around the vowels, colour in the full stops, and highlight the capital letters!
Thanks for all your support.
