Principal's Report

Dear SEPS Families,
Curriculum Day
Last Friday, our staff made the journey to Hastings to attend a cultural immersion day at Willum Wurrain Aboriginal Association. We spent the morning with Elder Uncle Peter and Michelle, who provided their insight and perspective into the challenges we face as educators at this time in history. Staff are still talking about the experience and the learning that we came away with. At SEPS we believe in providing an inclusive and safe space by practicing tolerance, empathy and respect for all however there is always room for improvement and something new to learn. A key message that I personally connected with was the belief by our first nations people that if we take care of, and heal the land on which we live, then it in turn will take care of us. We learnt about the amazing foresight of our first scientists and how much we have to learn from them if we want to sustain all the wonderful resources that our great country has to offer.
Cyber Safety
On Wednesday 23 July at 7 pm (first week of Term Three), we will be partnering with Hampton PS to host a cyber safety seminar Raising Kids in a Digital World. We know that this is a very relevant topic for our families and hope that you can attend to learn more about the many topics that will be covered, including social media, online gaming, impacts of screen time, cyber bullying and AI. We were fortunate enough to receive this fully subsidized program courtesy of Bendigo Bank. Please see the attached flyer to register for the event. Please note that this event is strictly for parents and carers only. Students will not be permitted to attend.
Office News
Sadly, we said goodbye to Wendy, our extraordinary Business Manager, this week as she begins her journey home to Canada. We are very sad to be saying farewell for now but are so happy that she gets to reunite with her family and friends on the other side of the world! Wendy was our main carer of our beloved school dog Bailey. Unfortunately, Bailey was not successful in completing some of his Therapy Dog requirements and needs a little more time and training. With Wendy going, we were looking at options to rehome him. Luckily one of our SEPS families have taken him on. They already have a close connection with him and we know that he will be in excellent hands. We are happy that he will have his very own family and look forward to him still visiting us in the office! Tommy and Murphy will continue to pick up the load as our Therapy Dogs in Bailey’s absence.
Have a wonderful fortnight ahead!
