Ryan’s Rambling

Dear Families,

The Wintry weather has hit Ballarat this week. Frosty mornings have begun, albeit unusually late in the year.

A small group of our 5/6 students competed in the 9x9 AFL Winter Sports this week. Wins and losses happened throughout the day, which ultimately tested the resolve of our students. What always makes me proud about our students as they can be always relied upon to show our School Values. Humble in victory and gracious in defeat.  Thanks to the many parents for coming out to support the students and to Sam Peeters, for coaching them.

Our 3/4 Students were treated to a tremendous incursion where they spent the morning learning firsthand, about many of our Australian Fauna. It was definitely the highlight of the week for these students as they got to interact with a green tree frog, a stick insect and a blue tongue lizard. Our Inquiry Throughline of “The Creatures Around Us” has enticed a lot of excitement from Foundation to Grade Six, this term.

In this newsletter, I have detailed some information about the Department of Education’s changes to Mathematics Reporting. This change will come into effect from this semester. If you have any questions regarding this, please don’t hesitate to contact me at school.

Next week, is Reconciliation Week, following National Sorry Day on the 26th of May. Reconciliation Week and National Sorry Day are important times for all Australians to pause, reflect, and learn about our shared history. National Sorry Day, held on May 26, acknowledges the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly the Stolen Generations. Reconciliation Week, from May 27 to June 3, invites us to walk together towards a more respectful and united future. These events remind us of the strength and resilience of First Nations communities and challenge us to consider how we can contribute to healing and understanding. By listening, learning, and acting, we can all play a part in building a more just and inclusive Australia. Dana Street recognises the significance of our First Nations people, particularly the Wadawarrung People.  I invite you all to consider the above and walk together, for a better future for all.

Have a fantastic weekend

Ryan 😊
