Wellbeing & Inclusion Report

Heather McClure

I can not believe that we are at the halfway point of Term 2.

Term 2 is always busy, over the last two weeks we have started the Attitudes to School Student Survey which provides all students from Government schools, the opportunity to have their say in a range of different areas, from the classroom to their own wellbeing. The survey will be completed across the next 3 weeks.

Alongside this, our Year 10 students have started their Teen Mental Health First Aid training. Students will complete the training across 3 weeks.

With the weather finally turning and the increase of frosty mornings, we have seen an increase in students arriving to school out of uniform, this includes wearing hooded jumpers or tracksuit pants. Last week, we had a number of students arrive to school in pajama pants. It is not appropriate for students to wear pajama pants to school at any time. Students who arrive at school wearing pajama's will be asked to remove these items and will be provided with school uniform to wear.

School uniform at Woodmans Hill Secondary College plays an important role in creating a sense of equality among students. It helps minimise the visible social and economic differences that can sometimes arise through fashion or branded clothing. When everyone is dressed the same, there’s less pressure to keep up with trends, reducing distractions and allowing students to focus more on learning and connection.

Wearing the school uniform with pride sends a strong message to our school and wider community. At Woodmans Hill Secondary College, our school uniform is more than just clothing, it’s a visible representation of our shared values, identity, and community spirit.

When students wear the school uniform, they step into a mindset of readiness and responsibility. Just as a uniform set’s expectations in professional workplaces, it signals that school is a place of purpose and learning. Consistent uniform standards help reinforce positive behaviours, routines, and respect for the learning environment.

We appreciate the ongoing support from families in ensuring students wear their full and correct uniform each day. By working together to maintain high standards, we send a clear message about the value we place on our school culture, respect for rules, and pride in who we are. Please discuss the importance of full school uniform with your child.

As we know teenagers grow quickly, should you require support in purchasing uniform please reach out to myself or your child’s year level leader. If you have any questions regarding our school uniform, please do not hesitate to reach out.
