Creative Journeys Across Year Levels – Visual Arts at a Glance
The Woodmans Hill Secondary College Art Key Learning Area is buzzing with energy as students across all year levels dive deep into diverse projects. From self-exploration to legendary tales, each year group is embracing creativity and pushing artistic boundaries.
Year 7 – Portraits Inspired by the Archibald Prize Our Year 7 students have been exploring the power of portraiture, taking inspiration from the prestigious Archibald Prize. Studying a range of contemporary and historical portraits, they are now creating their own artworks of Australian creatives.
Year 8 – Lino Printing and the Alter Ego Year 8 artists, through the medium of lino printing, are exploring the concept of the "alter ego" — a creative investigation into identity, transformation, and duality.
Year 9 Art – Abstract Art and Synaesthesia In Year 9, students have been delving into the abstract, taking on the neurological phenomenon of synaesthesia — a condition where one sense is involuntarily linked to another, such as seeing sounds or hearing colours. Students have explored how to represent music in visual form.
Year 9 Textiles - After several weeks of thoughtful planning and designing, the textile students are now bringing their custom kit bags to life. They've explored a range of textile techniques including shibori and tie dye, as well as intricate embroidery and felting, adding unique personal touches to every piece.
Year 10 – Myths, Legends, and Storytelling Through Art Mythology has been influencing the Year 10 students, who are using stories from around the world as inspiration for their current body of work. Students are experimenting with symbolism, composition, and painting to bring these age-old tales into a contemporary art context.
Year 10 Visual Communication & Design - Digital -students are developing their eye for layout and design. They're working on magazine spreads, combining hand-drawn elements with digital tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Lightroom.
VCE – Final Works and Exam Preparation Our senior students are in the final stages of completing their major artworks, a culmination of months of research, experimentation, and refinement. As deadlines approach, VCE students are balancing creativity with critical thinking. Alongside finalising their visual pieces, they are also preparing for upcoming written exams.
The Art Department is looking fantastic, with vibrant new displays showcasing a wide range of artwork that celebrate the talent and hard work of our students!
