From the Classroom

Grade 1/2 Underwater World Clay Hanging

Grade 1/2 students have been diving deep into creativity this term. Inspired by the wonders of the ocean, they created their very own underwater scenes out of clay.

Using the slab technique, students carefully rolled out flat pieces of clay to form the base of their ocean worlds. They then used the scoring and slip method to join pieces of clay, e.g. attaching sea creatures, coral, seaweed, and other imaginative ocean elements.

From wiggly octopuses to colourful fish and textured shells, each artwork is unique. The students showed fantastic focus, creativity, and clay-handling skills.

Grade 3 Learning

We’ve had a busy week in grade 3!

Throughout the term, we have been looking at non fiction texts in reading and writing. This week, we have started working an information report on our own chosen topics that we will publish and then present to our classmates. We’ve got a large range of topics including lightning, red pandas, footy and soccer players, tractors and YouTubers.

In our numeracy, we have been learning about different problem solving strategies for solving addition and subtraction problems. Students have been able to apply strategies such as partitioning and using vertical algorithms.

Finally, we have looked at the SWPBS focus of being trustworthy by reporting problems to an adult. Students have named behaviours as being rude, being mean on purpose or bullying (when someone has been mean on purpose to the same person repeatedly). When doing this, students got do dance moves that to show their thinking of the behaviour. Check out the cool dance moves below!
