PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
Learning
During September we have had a number of fun activities for students including Fathers Day/Special Persons’ day with an invitation to join classes, special pizza lunch, the wear your team colours and SEDA Footy Clinic, and the Move-A-Thon day event. Thank-you to staff for organising these events and to the Fundraising Committee for their work behind the scenes with the Move-A-Thon.
Professional Learning
Last week the principal class team attended a three-day AASE “Better Together” Conference in Adelaide. It was a fabulous conference with the highlight listening to Dr. Shelley Moore from the University of British Columbia present a number of sessions on Universal Design for Learning. Myself and Michele Marcu (former Assistant Principal) were lucky enough to meet Shelley on our study tour to Canada in 2018, and I was excited to introduce her to Ashley and Tania and hear her inspiring messages, as well as attend a number of interesting workshops. Thank-you to Samantha Simpkin and Marty Dufty who had Duty of Care during this time.
SSG meetings
Thank-you to parents who attended term 3 Student Group meetings. Revised student Individual Education Plans should be provided to parents and carers today.
Song Room
We are pleased to have received three year’s funding from the ‘Song Room’ that will enable a music artist to work at our school to support the delivery of music with our students. Roni Shewan has been appointed to this role and will commence on a Friday from next term.
Early Year 12 Graduation
An early Year 12 Graduation was held last Friday for students Lachie Shrume and Herbie Taylor who are leaving us at the end of term 3. Good luck to both of these students for their post-school options.
New Staff Appointments
I am pleased to announce the following teacher appointments:
- Andrew Hair - Physical Education (Start term 4)
- Cara Stansfield (Start Nov)
- Claire Prewer (Start 2024)
- Phoebe Graham-Bowd (Start 2024)

No appointments were made for our Education Support roles or Graduate Teacher position. We have advertised to fill these roles again along with additional teacher postions.
We have several staff transferring to Nganboo Borron (Lollipop Creek Specialist School interim name) for promotion opportunities. Natasha McAuiffe (Assistant Principal) returned from Parental Leave and began in August whilst Stephanie Caramanico (Office Manager) starts in term 4.
Traffic Safety
A reminder to slow down when driving close to our school and be alert for parents and students moving about before and after school. There are 40km zone restrictions in Calvert Street and Quamby Avenue, and the parking area next to Hamlyn Reserve is left to right entry, and cars should be walking pace. The Calvert Street carpark is 10km and is very busy at these times of the day so please be cautious.
Staff Award Nominations
Congratulations to the following staff who have been nominated in this year’s Annual Principals of Specialist School’s (PASS) Awards. We wish them every success in their individual category.
- Jessie Francis (Social Worker - Allied Health)
- Lia Van Arkadie (Graduate Teacher)
- Jess Blakely (Education Support).
Early Finish Friday
School finishes at the earlier time of 2:30pm this Friday 15th September. We will see you all back on Monday 2nd October.
Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable school holiday break.
