School Council Meeting – August 2023

HIGHLIGHTS

  • School Captain Jasmine represented JSC and informed School Council about the impressive work that this motivated group are planning and achieving. Thank you to Ashley Bau, JSC members and School Captains for leading such great initiatives and caring so much about improving the school and supporting your fellow students in such a positive way.
  • Thank you CHAPS (AGAIN!!) for another round of successful initiatives and events held over the past 2 months - Movie tickets, Chocolate Drive, Trivia and Silent Auction Night.  Your efforts in engaging the school community and subsequently fundraising for additional improvements around the school are hugely appreciated. Thank you to all parents involved in the organisation of these initiatives and taking time out of your weekend to set up for the Trivia Night. Thanks also to the long list of sponsors from within our community that generously donated over 100 Silent Auction and Raffle prizes. It was an incredibly well-run and fun event for our community to enjoy that also resulted in the raising of over $14,700 in funds for the school.
  • Principal’s Report – this month we focused on a detailed Naplan data review, led by Christian and further celebrated the success of the school’s overall performance, whilst also analysing the data. Other topics included enrolments; the annual lodgement of the emergency management plan; staffing updates and the ongoing support of flexible working arrangements; and the celebration of the staff, students and families involved in the many extracurricular and extension programs that have been conducted throughout June-August.  There are many extracurricular opportunities offered to the students at CHPS throughout the year and there are several passionate staff providing these opportunities and we are grateful for their efforts.
  • Thanks also to Christian and the Principal Team for supporting these initiatives and attending all or some of them in their own time. Christian has attended the Indonesian Language finals, the CHAPS Trivia Night, Wakakirri and School Council in the past week and we appreciate his support and engagement at each of these events.
  • Facilities and the learning environment - we acknowledged some of the recent facilities work which includes the installation of the undercover grandstand next to the Netball courts; tree planting at the rear of the school; partial completion of the ceiling refurbishment; and the initiation of a new playground design to be installed near the stadium.
  • Aligning with the review cycle, the updated Uniform Policy has been reviewed and endorsed by School Council. Thanks to Jordan, Karen and the Education Committee for this completing this work. Parents will be able to view this updated policy on the school website in due course.
  • We also ratified the Uniform and Canteen price list for 2023.
