Wear it Purple Day

Wear it purple day on Friday August 25th was a fantastic opportunity for us as a College to celebrate young people in the LGBTIQA+ community and show our support of them. The Student Representative Council (SRC) did a fantastic job in the organisation of the extended lunchtime and associated activities, as did our College Wellbeing team.

Student Subject Selections

I would like to thank our families for engaging in the subject selection process and supporting our students in making some really exciting choices for 2024. We are currently in the process of working through the subject selection data and re-counselling students who have selected a subject that will not run in 2024. We are looking forward to again offering a wide breadth of subjects next year.

Students requiring pathways/careers advice are advised to make an appointment with Mr Ben Johnson or Mr Aaron Hassett, both are based in the Senior Years Sub School.

Rugby Academy

I am pleased to confirm that we will be commencing our Rugby Academy in 2024 with a Year 10 class and a program/s is being developed for our junior students to access as well.  James Rollinson has been appointed to the Rugby Coach position. James will be joining us in 2024 from Bellarine Secondary College where he has been teaching Chemistry, Science and Maths. He has a strong background in Rugby in the United Kingdom and Australia and is incredibly excited to begin at Lara Secondary College.

Student Atitudes to School Survey Results

Last week we received the preliminary results for the attitudes to school survey results, which 91% of students completed in term 2 this year. We are happy with the completion rate, significantly higher than in previous years and of other schools and believe that it accurately reflects our students’ experiences and opinions at Lara Secondary College.

We look forward to further unpacking the results with student focus groups and our staff to develop action plans to address areas for improvement.

LSC Photography and Filming Annual Opt Out Form

During the school year there are many occasions and events where staff may photograph, film or record students participating in school activities and events. We do this for many reasons including to .e.g. celebrate student participation and achievement, showcase particular learning programs, document a student’s learning journey/camps/excursions/sports events etc, communicate with our parents and school community in newsletters and on social media.

Lara Secondary College understands that parents and carers have the right to withhold permission for our school to use photographs, video, or recordings of your child (apart from circumstances where the school is not required to seek consent – see our Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Policy).

If you have read this notice and are comfortable with the school using photos, video or recordings of your child as described above, you do not need to take any further action. However, if you have decided that you do not want images of your child to be collected or used by our school, please complete the form below and return it to lara.sc@education.vic.gov.au Please note that it may not be possible for the school to amend past publications or to withdraw images that are already in the public domain.
