Year 9 Program Review

Thank you to the parents, students and staff who provided feedback on the Year 9 program, we received valuable feedback and are taking your feedback and suggestions on board. We are currently in the research phase of the review which includes looking into programs at other schools, talking with and visiting other schools. In 2024, the structure of Year 9 will remain the same, however we are continually refining the Synergy program to ensure it is relevant and engaging for the students and develops their lifelong skills.

I would like to thank the Review committee comprising of Sam Di Camillo, Melanie Malakunas, Anne Chowne, Jacinta Chute, Vanda Pugliese and Fiona Tassone for their ongoing work in this area.

If you have any questions regarding the Year 9 program or anything to do with Learning and Teaching at the Academy, please feel free to get in touch.

Year 9 Radical Women

Our Be Like Her Live broadcast will go live on Tuesday September 12!

As you know, Radical Women is an elective subject we run at Year 9, where students explore radical women who are trailblazers, pushing the boundaries, challenging the norms and creating change.

The 'Radical Women' program, seeks to nurture a new generation of fearless and compassionate leaders. It reflects the Academy of Mary Immaculate’s commitment to empowering young women with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to challenge the status quo and create a more equitable and inclusive society.

We saw the amazing potential of such a subject and this year have embraced the opportunity to use the media content produced through our partnership with the LIVE FM Be Like Her Live radio program to educate others in our community about gender equity, respect for women and female empowerment, in an innovative and student-driven way.

Sue Moran, Radical Women

We participated in the LIVE FM - BE LIKE HER LIVE global radio project two weeks ago, where our Radical Women students took part in a workshop. The students then went on to host live radio interviews with 13 amazing women who have excelled across industries, the community, and in life, and are passionate about matters that help build great communities.

The BE LIKE HER LIVE initiative is a real-world, modern media project that has students of all genders in Australian schools co-hosting live radio interviews with women who have excelled in male-dominated industries, and other selected fields, and are working to make a difference in the world.

Our radio content will be broadcast, to our neighbourhood and across the world, on global radio station, LIVE FM on Tuesday September 12.

The 13 interviews will be broadcast between 7.30 am – 11.00 am and 2.30 pm – 5.30 pm.
