Apprenticeships & Traineesh

The new Head Start team in Goulburn Ovens Murray have been busy working with many students & families at Wangaratta High School helping students to establish School Based Apprenticeships/Traineeships.

As a new Department of Education program to the area, the Wangaratta High School have been hosting Assistant Director Cassy Campbell, who has been busy establishing many pathways for students into School Based Apprenticeships/Traineeships.  This allows students to work 1 day a week with a local employer, whilst still remaining in school the other 4 days.

The success of the program allows students to gain a Head Start in their career and TAFE studies whilst receiving subject credits back into their VCE or VCE VM as they remain engaged with their schooling.

Cassy hopes the program goes from strength to strength, and looks forward to matching many local businesses with budding Wangaratta High School students in school based apprenticeship/traineeship opportunities.

Year 10 student Kaylen Coller O’Keefe was recently signed up as School Based Apprentice with @Gamze Smokehouse in a Certificate 3 in Meat Processing (Small Goods).

He has been enjoying the hands on experience and learning about the behind the scenes operations of the local smoke house.

Budding young plumber Sonny McCormack has been signed up with @Tom Duncan Plumbing & Gas as a school based apprentice and is enjoying being employed outside of school once a week whilst learning on the job skills.
