Reflection

A Wise Old Teacher

Once a wise old teacher was speaking to a group of young and eager students. She gave them an assignment to go out and find by the side of some lonely road a small unnoticed flower. She asked them to study the flower for a long time. 'Get a magnifying glass and study the delicate veins in the leaves and notice the nuances and shades of colour. Turn the leaf slowly and observe its symmetry. And remember: this flower might have gone unnoticed and unappreciated if you had not found and admired it.'

When the class returned, after carrying out the assignment, the wise old teacher observed: 'People are like that.  Each one is different, carefully crafted, uniquely endowed. But you have to spend time with them to know this.  So many people go unnoticed and unappreciated because no one has ever taken time with them and admired their uniqueness.'

ln a true sense, each one of us is a unique masterpiece of God.

Perhaps we could spare a couple of minutes this week to consider those who might go 'unnoticed and unappreciated' in our community.  What can we do to provide the right 'climate' for these unique flowers to grow and develop? They are just there waiting for the gentle touch of a helping hand, the soft rain of a kind word and the sunshine of a friendly smile.

Try to appreciate a 'flower' this week.

Here is Colmcille again, now an artist, a master craftsman, bent in concentration on his work. He is the patron saint of Irish artists.

Splinters, Splashes, Sounds, Snaps, Stage and Stories

Bigger than ever before, our very talented HSC students will be presenting their major works in an exhibition around the college next Thursday evening, 24 August.

It will commence at 6:00 pm.  Please join us to view these presentations, which will be in the form of visual art works, industrial technology constructions, drama and music performances, and history speeches.

Congratulations to all these students for their hard work over the past years as they present the culmination of their learning in artistic fields.

Congratulations also to Henrik Hogg for his artwork for the event, shown here.

Father's Day - Awareness of Organ Donation

I am looking forward to celebrating another first here at St Pius X College - our Father's Day events.  We are holding the Junior School Father's Day Liturgy at Oxford Falls, followed by the eagerly anticipated Father and Son sports day, next Thursday 31 August.

On Friday 1 September we will have the Senior School Father's Day celebrations commencing with Mass at 7:30 am in Our Lady of Dolours Church, followed by breakfast here at Chatswood.  This year we will also be holding Jersey Day on Friday 1 September to raise awareness of organ donation in Australia.

Fathers, Grandfathers, etc and their son/s can wear their favourite jersey during the Mass and then during the school day.  Students still must wear full winter uniform in their travel to and from school.

Please see the Mission and Identity page for more information and how to RSVP to these events.

Grand Final week for Football

Congratulations to our 3rd XI, 4th XI, 16A, 14A and 14C football teams who played their grand final games last Saturday.  The sidelines were alive with supporters cheering our teams on however, unfortunately, they were not successful as the final whistles blew. Some teams lost in pentalty shootouts which made it apparent how close the teams really were.

Thank you to our coaches for their encouragement and coaching over the season.  We look forward to bigger and better things in 2024.

A challenging Rugby season comes to a conclusion

Last weekend brought to an end the winter season for football and rugby.  Our tennis teams have also finalised their season.  Good luck to our winter squash teams who will continue games this weekend, with semis and finals in the coming weeks.

Thank you to all the players and coaches for your efforts with winter sport over the last two terms.  Thank you also to parents for the support of your sons, whether by driving them to matches, washing uniforms or cheering teams along each weekend.

Reminder of St Pius X Feast Day Holiday

A reminder that there will be no classes next Monday as this is our annual holiday in which we celebrate the feast day of St Pius X.
