Student Voice : Springvale Campus
Hello students, teachers and families of Springvale Rise Primary School!
We are VERY excited to share highlights once again, from the last fortnight! We CANNOT believe it is already Term 3, Week 6 and we only have 4 weeks until the end of term. As we have previously said, time flies when you're learning lots and having fun at the same time.
A Very Special SLC Event
As you may know we are a country surrounded by water, so it is important to learn how to swim. To practise our swimming skills, the SLC engaged in an 8-day program at Noble Park Aquatic Centre. Every student had loads of fun learning how to swim and using a variety of strokes such as backstroke, freestyle, torpedo, and lots more. The last day of the swimming program was extra special because the pool organised some amazing water activities. A HUGE thank you to Mrs Griffiths and Mr Coad for organising this fantastic experience and all the teachers who encouraged and supported us. We must also thank the Department of Education who once again provided us with some extra funds and made it more affordable for our families.
I loved going swimming because I could learn lots of new strokes and have fun with my friends - Justin 5/6D
A Very Special Celebration
Just recently, it was Principal’s Day….......A VERY significant opportunity for us to celebrate our amazing hardworking Principals and thank them for everything they do to create a happy, safe, and educational, learning environment. Each learning centre made something from the bottom of their hearts; something to show how much they care and value them! To start off, Angel from the FLC did an acknowledgment of Country. She read BEAUTIFULLY and let me say…...... the Principals were flabbergasted!
The SLC created a very impressive presentation that included descriptive words and interviews from students across the school. It was all shared at a very special assembly and gee Mrs Cottier, Miss Jamar and Mrs Karup were surprised! It was made with lots of effort and love, and it was a way of showing how much we appreciate everything our Principals do. Some students presented gifts and flowers and some students said some heartwarming words. Mrs Cottier, Miss Jamar, Mrs Karup and Mrs Stubbings truly deserve it!
I am happy that we had Principals Day because we got to celebrate our fantastic, remarkable Principals’ - Ozid 1/2D.
Another Very Special Event
As you may know, our school started celebrating Book Week this week. It was like a weeklong Book Party! It was a chance for us to read the amazing, short-listed books and take part in this year’s theme ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’. Each home group selected their favourite book and designed a door display that represented this text. The SLC classes selected ‘Dirt by Sea’ by Michael Wagner. This book really excited us due to it’s comic-style illustrations and amazing coastal landmarks the characters visited as they enjoyed a family road trip. It’s going to be hard for the judges to choose a winner as every single door design across the school looks fabulous!
Real Life Learning - Maths
We are very thrilled to announce that every student in the SLC has achieved so many learning goals during our Maths Learning Cycle! The SLC students have been learning to solve subtraction and smashing LOADS of success criteria! We have been playing BEHOLD… the ‘Annual Ultimate Springvale Rise Subtraction Games’! We engaged in a variety of challenging activities to find the difference between our physical strength, fitness, and stamina! Not only was this fun and engaging, but this rich task helped us learn to subtract LARGER numbers with DECIMAL FRACTIONS and learn more about Length and Time. This task has also helped us master the skill of subtracting decimal numbers with those challenging internal zeros. We are smashing it! Go SLC!
Another SLC Highlight
Last week, the students participated in their new season inter-school match against Yarraman Oaks Primary School. It was a very close and tough match! We interviewed a student from the SLC and here's what they said,
‘My favourite highlight was SLC sports. Everyone played fairly and showed great sportsmanship.’ O’Mine 5/6D
How lucky are we to be students of the SLC!
Other Learning Centre Highlights
Exciting news! Not long ago the JLC was very lucky to be invited to go to the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens. They got to see native Australian animals and build their schema more around interesting plants. Did you know Cranbourne Botanical Gardens has the world's LARGEST endangered orchid rewilding program? Yes indeed, there are loads of flowers and quite a pleasant view! We interviewed some JLC students and here's their response.
‘A highlight that I enjoyed was going to the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens because we got to see lovely animals and interesting plants.’ Stephanie 1/2D.
The MLC were also inspired by their recent excursion and are now writing wonderful texts about the earth and nature! It is so FANTASTIC to hear that all students across the learning centres are demonstrating excellence across all learning areas.
A huge congratulations to you all!
