Snapshots from Springvale

We have had a wonderful two weeks of school at the Springvale Campus. The students have made me feel very welcome after returning from my holiday. It’s great to be back!

The FLC students have continued to practise developing their mathematics skills, learning how to add and subtract (take away) numbers to solve problems. The students are using hands-on materials to practise the skills explicitly modelled by the teacher.

The MLC Chefs have been busy cooking vegetarian wontons and tacos over the last two weeks. Students have followed recipes and carefully used our knives to demonstrate their newly acquired chopping techniques, focusing on protecting their hands whilst chopping. We encourage our students to make some of these healthy recipes at home so they can share some of their skills with their family.  Please support them to do so and have a night off cooking.

The SLC students have had an incredible time during the swimming program. Our students have learnt some vital, lifelong skills in the pool including survival backstroke which was made fun by the instructors using key words such as “aeroplane, soldier, chicken wing” to describe the movements. The teachers enjoyed copying the movements from the side of the pool.

Lunch Clubs continue to be popular on the Springvale Campus. Our students have enjoyed learning dance moves and making new friends during Dance Club, they have made smoothies in Cooking Club and last week, we began Prayer Group on Fridays. Students who are interested in joining Prayer Group are encouraged to bring their prayer mats. All students are welcome.

Last Thursday, we had an amazing afternoon at the Foodbank Market. Many of our families enjoyed selecting from the free market which was full of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as Chobani yoghurt. We are grateful to Foodbank and Chobani for providing such a wonderful service for our families and a big thank you to Mrs Julie Raciti (our amazing Hub Leader) for the organisation.  You made so many students and families have a great day!

Take care and stay warm,
