Foundation

Our Foundation students have continued developing important social and movement skills in the gym. We have been focusing on taking turns, being patient and trying new activities, while also reinforcing how to move safely within the gym space. It has been wonderful to see students building confidence and supporting one another as they participate in different activities.

Year 1

Year 1 students rotated through a range of skill-based stations, allowing them to practise new movement skills while also revisiting and developing skills they began learning in Foundation. These stations helped me observe students’ progress while giving them the opportunity to practise skills such as throwing, catching and coordination in a fun and engaging way.

Year 2

Year 2 students put their skills into action through a group game of Mat Ball. In this team game, students worked together to demonstrate chest passing, catching and teamwork as they moved the ball down the court to a teammate standing in a hula hoop. It was fantastic to see students communicating, supporting one another and applying their skills in a game setting.

Year 3

Year 3 students have begun our Chest Passing and Ball Bouncing Unit. We have been focusing on chest passing against the wall, working with a partner, and practising control when bouncing the ball. Students also enjoyed some basketball dribbling relay activities, which helped develop coordination, control, teamwork and gave them an opportunity to shoot at the end of their dribble.

Year 4

Year 4 students started our Overarm Throw, Passing and Catching Unit. Students practised these skills with a partner before applying their accuracy in a fun activity called Basketball Hit. In this game, two teams worked to hit basketballs in the middle of the activity towards the opposing team’s side by throwing tennis balls. Students showed great enthusiasm while developing their throwing accuracy and teamwork.

Year 5

Year 5 students have begun playing Tee Ball, showcasing the knowledge and skills they have learned in previous years. Students demonstrated strong teamwork, batting and fielding skills as we introduced the game. Over the coming lessons, we will gradually begin integrating gloves, harder soft balls and tee ball metal bats to continue building their confidence and skill level.

Year 6

Year 6 students enjoyed revisiting Volleyball, practising with friends and participating in individual skill activities. Students worked on their passing, setting and control while demonstrating the volleyball skills they learned in Year 5. It has been great to see students remembering key techniques and applying them in gameplay situations.

School Sport

Year 3–6 Athletics Day

Last week our Year 3–6 students came together for one of the most exciting events on the school calendar – our Upper Primary Athletics Day. It was fantastic to see students showing enthusiasm, determination and excellent sportsmanship as they participated in a variety of track and field events throughout the day.

Students had the opportunity to challenge themselves in events such as running races, long jump, shot put and discus. Whether students were aiming to place in an event, beat a personal best, or simply give something new a try, it was wonderful to see everyone getting involved and giving their best effort.

One of the highlights of the day was seeing so many students proudly wearing their house colours. The venue was full of colour and energy as students cheered on their teammates and encouraged each other throughout the events. The house system helped create a strong sense of team spirit, with students proudly representing their house and celebrating each other's achievements.

A key focus of the day was not only performance, but also participation, resilience and encouragement. Many students stepped outside their comfort zones to try new events and showed fantastic persistence. It was also great to see students supporting their classmates and demonstrating respectful and positive sportsmanship across all activities.

A big thank you goes to our staff for helping organise, supervise and run the events across the day, ensuring everything ran smoothly. We also appreciate the support of the families who attended and helped create such a positive and encouraging atmosphere.

Overall, it was a fantastic day filled with effort, teamwork and school pride. We are incredibly proud of the way our Year 3–6 students represented themselves, their classmates and their house teams.
