Performing Arts
Our students have been busy exploring creativity, collaboration and confidence through Drama and Music in Performing Arts. Each year level has also been trying their hand at the circus skill of juggling.
Foundation
Foundation students have been discovering how to bring characters to life through dramatic play. Using costumes and props, students are experimenting with characterisation by using their imagination, body movements and facial expressions to act out different roles.
Year 1
Year 1 students have been learning how to create and perform characters using costumes and expressive drama skills. They are also exploring improvisation through magical transformation scenarios, where they use their voice, facial expressions and movement to turn into imaginative characters and situations while working collaboratively with their peers.
Year 2
Year 2 students are using picture settings as inspiration to improvise short scenes. They are learning how to build a story with a clear beginning, middle and end, while including characters, settings and a moment of tension. Students are focusing on using their voice, face and body to communicate emotions clearly to an audience.
Year 3
Year 3 students have been continuing their work on Fairytale Productions, combining elements of drama and music. Students are developing their skills in mime, narration and soundscape to perform fairytales with clear expression, accurate timing and confidence. They are also reflecting on how these dramatic and musical elements work together to tell a story.
Year 4
Year 4 students are exploring script reading through scenes from The Twits. They are focusing on using dramatic elements such as voice, facial expression and gesture to portray believable characters. Students are working cooperatively in groups to rehearse and perform short scripted scenes.
Year 5
Year 5 students are creating improvised “Breaking News” performances. Working in groups, they take on roles such as news anchors, reporters and witnesses to develop creative news stories. Students are practising staying in character, engaging the audience and providing constructive feedback to their peers.
Year 6
Year 6 students are exploring how music influences mood and meaning in film. By performing the same scene while different pieces of music are played, students are discovering how music can dramatically change the audience’s interpretation and emotional response to a performance.
