Hakea House

It has been an outstanding start to the year in Hakea House, and it has been wonderful to see our students return with such energy and purpose.
A very warm welcome to our new Year 7 students, who have already made an excellent impression. They have embraced secondary school life with enthusiasm and positivity, and they are a valued addition to Hakea House. We are delighted to have them as part of our community and look forward to seeing them grow in confidence and connection throughout the year.
Our Year 10 students are to be congratulated and warmly welcomed into Senior School. This is an important milestone, and they have stepped into this next phase with maturity and determination. A special acknowledgment must go to our Year 10 Peer Supporters, who ran an outstanding session for our new Year 7s. Their commitment, leadership and genuine care for our younger students were evident, and we are incredibly proud of the way they represented Hakea.
Our Year 11 and 12 students have also made a strong start to the year. They have returned focused and committed to their studies, setting a positive tone for what promises to be a significant year. This week, our Year 12 students attended Melbourne Cable Park, where they challenged themselves, supported one another and demonstrated fantastic community spirit. It was a pleasure to see them encouraging their peers and embracing the experience together. Next week, our Year 7 students are heading to Lysterfield for their excursion, and there is great excitement building as they prepare for this opportunity to connect and step outside their comfort zones.
We are also pleased to welcome and acknowledge members of our staff team. A warm welcome back to all Hakea staff as we begin another exciting year together. We are delighted to introduce Shubhangi Jaiswal as our new House Administration Officer, joining us from Eucalyptus House; welcome to the team. We also welcome Vicky Wu to Hakea, teaching Maths and Science. Matthew Carcassi joins us in the Hakea staffroom as a Learning Interventions Officer, having worked closely with many of our students over the past year, and we are thrilled to have him formally part of the team. Kiani Devis remains in Hakea and has taken on a new role as teaching staff in PDS, WRS and Humanities. We are grateful for the strength and dedication of our staff as we support our students to thrive.
As House Leader, I feel incredibly proud of the way Hakea has begun the year. There is a strong sense of belonging, high expectations and genuine care for one another. I encourage all students to continue to stretch themselves, bring their best each day and take up the many opportunities that come their way, whether in the classroom, on the sporting field or through House and community events. I am excited about the year ahead and confident that, together, we will continue to build on this strong start.
