Mr Matt Elson

Hello Gympie East parents, carers and community,

What a fantastic two weeks of school!

It has been an excellent start for us. Students have settled in extraordinarily quick to school routines, they are happy and learning. Thankyou to parents for helping to make transitioning back to school so easy, you have obviously prepped them well.

We have also have enough enrolments for an 8th class. This will be excellent for our school and is very exciting. I am currently in communication with the Department about who the teacher will be and when they will be able to start. We will create two smaller year 3 classes which will mean 3/4H will be year 4 only, creating a much smaller class for Ms Heathcote. Then we will inject a lot of extra support into Prep to ensure they are supported. I will be in communication with parents as soon as I know.

Our PBL focus for this week was to 'attend school regularly and on time'. Evidence based research tells us that it is important for students get into a regular morning routine of getting ready for school and arriving on time or even a bit earlier so they don't feel rushed. Too many missed school days can also have a huge effect on learning. For the first fortnight, we are averaging above 95% attendance which is terrific. Obviously, if students are sick then they need to stay at home to rest and recuperate, but extra missed days can put students behind by missing key learning.  Our PBL focus for next week will be 'wear school uniform/wear a hat'. I would like to thank parents for their diligence in ensuring students wear their uniform and having their school hat with them, we have a great culture of that here at East.

P&C Meeting

We have our first P&C meeting of the year on Monday 9th February at 3:30pm. We will have this in the STEM Room. All parents are welcome, this is a great opportunity to meet other parents and have a say in our school.

Tuckshop

Our Tuckshop is always looking for volunteers. Please consider if there are any Wednesdays when you can give up some time to help. If not, we may need to put a message out Monday morning to cancel Tuckshop for that week if there are not enough volunteers.

Thanks

Mr Matt Elson
