Year 4 Urban Gardening

Welcome to to 2026!
The Year 4 students were very busy during their first gardening session this week, removing all the vegetable plants that perished over the holidays due to the very hot weather. I look forward to working with the Year 4 students & their teachers this year.

Below are two articles that were written by Year 4 students at the end of last year:
In gardening we have been having fun learning about how to take care of plants and learning how to be sustainable in our everyday lives. Raffy, the parent helper has been showing us how to plant many different things.

In 4C we have gardening on Wednesday mornings. In Term 1 and 2 we did weeding, planting, shredding, watering, composting, and at the end of Term 2 we started our own worm farm.
- We mostly weeded near the 'Growing Together' graffiti design. For these two terms we planted broad beans, tomatoes, marigolds and fennel.
- Using our amazing groups of shredders we shredded used classroom paper that we didn’t need anymore. We added the shredded paper to our compost bins and worm farms.
- We watered on the stadium side where they cut out the old bush and replaced it with golden flowers.
- Last but not least we emptied the compost tumbler and we put it in the bays in the teachers’ car park. In Term 4 we did everything that we did in Term 1 and 2, but we mostly cared about our worm farm. How do we use our worm farm you might be wondering? Well we feed them vegetable scraps, then we pour water on top of the hay carpet that is on top. Afterwards we would tip the worm farm slightly and the worm juice comes out and then we pour it onto the plants.
