Visual Arts

Welcome back to the Visual Arts classroom! It has been wonderful catching up with students and hearing about their summers. If you’ve visited the office late last week, you may have seen our collaborative artwork, 'Dreaming of a Black Rock Summer', which reflects many happy holiday memories.

Here’s a brief snapshot of what each year level will be exploring in Visual Arts this term.

Foundation

Foundation students gently settling into the art room as they become familiar with school and art room routines. Through drawing, colour and creative play, students will explore warm and cool colours, learn about the elements of art, and create imaginative landscapes inspired by small worlds. They are encouraged to have a go, share their ideas, and discover that there are no mistakes in art — just creativity, confidence and fun.

Year One

Year One students will build confidence using colour, shape and line through projects such as rainbow heart artworks and imaginative landscapes, including fairy and goblin homes. They will explore space, detail and creative expression while experimenting with new materials.

Year Two

Year Two students will explore the elements of art through a range of projects, including a Valentine’s Day piece, mythical creature landscapes and warm and cool colour artworks. They will develop their drawing skills while experimenting with shading, contrast and depth.

Year Three

Year Three students will strengthen their drawing and design skills through projects such as Valentine’s Day artworks, an Ice Castle Landscape and Rainbow Animals. They will explore texture, perspective and detail while experimenting with a variety of materials.

Year Four

Year Four students will refine their skills through a Jen Stark-inspired heart artwork, an elements of art poster, a stained glass landscape and a wave artwork inspired by Japanese art. These projects focus on colour, scale, depth and blending techniques.

Year Five and Six

Year Five and Six students will extend their artistic skills through a heart-shaped sun catcher, a detailed elements and principles of design project, and an extended artwork inspired by a contemporary artist. Students will focus on creativity, technique and personal expression.
