Year 5 News

We have been very busy in Year 5 CB so far enjoying our friends old and new. We welcomed a new student to our class Keira and hope she enjoys being at our school.

Prayer Cloth

One of the many things we have done and all the other classes is our prayer cloth. Each year we make a new prayer cloth to show our love and respect for God. We wrote our names on it and then drew a self portrait. Mrs Barwick, our amazing teacher, wrote the title and placed decorative glass gems around it. Angela brought the prayer cloth up to the altar at our school beginning mass and Fr Brian blessed it. This will now go onto our prayer table in our classroom.

All About Me

In our class we did a task called “All About Me”. We did it to introduce ourselves to the other students in the class. There were templates to choose from- giant sneaker, soccer ball, hoodie and flowers. We wrote our name, age, birthday, favourite colour and other interesting things about ourselves. After that we decorated our work ready to be laminated. Our teacher put them up on the wall for all of us to have a look at.

Colour Monsters

A few days ago, we read a story called “The Colour Monster” by Anna Llenas. It was about your different feelings and emotions. They were represented by six jars with six colours: Happy- yellow, sad-blue, angry-red, black-fear, green-calm and pink-love. We were given a sheet with a huge list of emotions  and we had to decide which feeling/emotion would go under the different colours. This helped us to use different words to explain our feelings in more detail. We enjoyed colouring in our monster to show our feelings.

What country do we come from?

On our back wall we have a large map of the world. We made mini Australian passports. The passport has the emblem of an emu, kangaroo and coat of arms. These animals are the only two Australian animals that can’t walk backwards. We move forwards as a country. We had to draw a picture of ourselves, parents and siblings. The next part was to write down the countries our parents and siblings were born in. We coloured our passports in gold and navy. Then we pinned them around the map and using pieces of ribbon we pinned them from the passport to the country our parents had come from.

Coat of Arms

In Year 5 we have done a lot of things and we chose to do a Coat of Arms because it got to show all our personalities. We all had to draw our families, and the rest was our choice. For my choice I drew my favourite colour, my dog, my plants in my room, ice-cream and my favourite book.

One of my partners drew their favourite sports team, favourite food, favourite colour and what he likes to do in his spare time. Another person drew their favourite shoe , favourite gem, dessert, animal and FIFA 2024. Everyone loved this activity and hopefully we will do something like this again.

5ST

This year our school motto is GEM which represents Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness.

To show our school cares each year we create a prayer cloth with our motto and show creativity towards it. Once it is done it gets blessed at church by Father Brian  and then is returned to our class to use during prayer time.

It took lots of hard  work and teamwork to finish, everyone used a variety of colours to put on the cloth and also used LOTS of detail. This year we will use GEM and represent it clearly through 2024.

5CF

Welcome:

Welcome to 5CF. It's been a great year so far, meeting new people and making new friends, and also meeting our new wonderful teacher. We’ve been learning new things and had our first assembly with all the grade fives and all the teachers. In the first assembly we all talked about all the cool things we are excited for this new year. We also did our first math activity we did was data collecting, and we had to go around the whole class asking questions to everybody. It was a great experience to meet all of our new classmates and to have a good friendship with everybody in our new year 5 class. We also made our first writing activity by writing to our teacher about what we struggle with and what we are good at doing or what we prefer, like if we prefer to work alone or with others in a group. We had many fun times meeting new students and new people in our class. We've had an amazing year so far, having new experiences and making new friendships. We are also learning about where we see God in our daily lives and how we can connect with God and how we can look after God's most wonderful creation, which is our home, Earth. In 5CF, we are a GEM classroom, which represents Gratitude, Empathy, and Mindfulness. These are very important values that we learn to follow during our primary school years.

Going Up Day:

Going Up Day was a really fun time. It was the first time meeting our classmates and our teacher, Miss Fashcah. The activity we did was making postcards. Miss Fashcah took pictures of us; while she was taking the pictures, the rest of our class was colouring in and doing the questions for the activity. We also played a game called Atoms. The game was to listen to the teacher and act like people; for example, the teacher tells us to act like Ronaldo, then she lets us act like him for a couple of minutes or seconds, and she tells us a number, and we have to get in groups of that number. We had a great time getting to know our classmates and our new teacher. We had fun playing “Who Am I” and learning new stuff about other people because our teacher started giving us clues on the postcard, and we had to guess who the person was.

Prayer Cloth:

It has been a wonderful start with the prayer cloth, especially working as a team to create artwork. It is a wonderful experience working as a team to bring a dream to life, transforming a simple piece of cloth into a dressed Catholic garment. We worked on ideas and used teamwork to form 5CF G.E.M. It took several days, but by taking our time and working together, we created not just a cloth but a masterpiece. At first, I felt it was impossible to finish alone, but with teamwork, we completed the cloth in no time.
