Morning Teas

Over the past two weeks we have hosted morning tea for families and carers from our Junior and Middle Schools.

We will be hosting more of these events over the next term and hope to see many more of you there. Meeting up with each other over morning tea proved a chance to connect and share experiences as well as an opportunity to spend time with some of the staff. It was great to see many families in attendance and we thank those that were able to come along.

Although these morning teas are primarily for making connections, please make sure you let us know the direction in which you would like these sessions to take and if there are any areas of interest you would like to explore. We value your input and aim to further develop our parents’ engagement and build a strong community that supports each other.

School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS aka PBIS)

Mission Statement - Putting the Pieces Together

“At Jackson School, we support positive behaviour through teaching clear and consistent expectations in order to maximize student academic achievement to build a community of safe, respectful and responsible citizens.”

Jackson School is a SWPBS school. This is a research-based framework that is an organised, data-driven system of interventions, strategies, and supports that positively impact schoolwide and individualised behaviour planning. Through this system we support our students learn expected behaviour at home, school and in the community.

The Jackson School Community has identified SAFETY, RESPONSIBILITY and RESPECT as being the key expectations required to develop a school culture and climate. LEARNING and INDEPENDENCE are the two values that we refer to along with our expectations. These would best facilitate increased student engagement, learning and wellbeing, whilst at the same time, decrease disruptive behaviours across the whole school.

The following seven focus areas were identified as being the locations to encourage these expectations: Learning Areas, Outdoor Areas, Hallways/Walkways, Toilets, Buses, Community and Online Community (eSmart)

To reward our students for demonstrating positive behaviour through our expectations and values, we have an immediate reinforcement system where students receive “Jackpoints”. Students collect Jackpoints over the course of the week and term.  At the end of each week, Jackpoints that students have accumulated will have an opportunity to redeem their points at the PBIS shop. The PBIS shop will have a variety of items that the students can purchase using their Jackpoints.

At the end of each week selected students from each classroom receive an award for demonstrating any of the 5 expectations and values during their cohort assembly. Additionally, at the end of term selected students from each cohort also receive an achievement award at the end of term assembly.
