Assistant Principal's Page

from Julie's Desk.

Hi all,

How great is it for the children to be back at school (A few of my holiday snaps for you below)!  The place is buzzing and despite the recent mini heat wave, everyone is walking with a spring in their step.  Speaking of ‘spring’ you might like to check out a new initiative below that is combining Ninja style physical activities with improving mental health.  It is facilitated by a qualified exercise person and a psychologist.  It does have a cost, but is still worth checking out.

Wellbeing

Congratulation to the 52 Year 5 and 6 students who signed up and were trained by Cheyenne and Kelly and Kelly (2 different ones!) to be ‘Helping Hands’ leaders in our Wellbeing play space.  This is a space where younger children can visit and engage in peer led structured games.  This will be open in the coming days.

Congratulations also to Ameya and Leilani who took initiative, wrote a proposal and very soon (under the supervision of Cheyenne), will facilitate a lunchtime program that focusses on celebrating differences.

Culture - A couple of days/times that have been recently celebrated

Lunar New Year – The year of the dragon

Shrove Tuesday – AKA Pancake day

Some first few weeks of the year reminders:

Before School arrival

Please note that as per our Yard Duty and Supervision Policy, children are not supervised by staff in the yard before school until 8.45am. This week children have been arriving as early as 8am, without their parents/carers remaining onsite to supervise them. This is a child safety issue.

If you have early morning commitments, please make alternative care arrangements. This could include enrolling your children in our excellent Before School Care program. The office will contact parents/carers of children who are frequently arriving early and without supervision to discuss how the school can best support you.

Uniform

Thanks to all parents and carers who are ensuring that their children are in full school uniform every day. Of late, I have noticed some children wearing short bloomers as opposed to skorts. Please know that these are not part of the uniform and arrange for the purchase of skorts. Should you have difficulty purchasing uniform, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Eating times

At CHPS, the children are given three opportunities to eat a day:

10am ish – Brain food – Fresh fruit or vegetables

11.30am – Recess – A snack

1.50pm – Lunch

Please make sure that your child has enough food to eat for each day as this is pivotal to maximise learning and engagement.

Until next time,

Julie Reid – Assistant Principal – Wellbeing and Engagaement
