  • Build capacity to continuously reason, reflectively, logically and critically.
  • Embrace interdependence of human existence as global citizens, who are responsible to and for themselves and others.
  • Engage in learning in a multitude of ways, through personalised and self-paced learning.

Religious Education

K:3 The Easter Season:

This unit explores two Easter Stories; ‘The Women at the Tomb’ (Luke 24:1-6) and the second of Jesus’ appearance to his disciples on the shore of Lake Tiberias (John 21:1-14). Students will respond to Scripture stories and communicate their knowledge about Jesus.

K:7 God’s Creation:

This unit explores the wonder and beauty of God’s creation. It presents creation as God’s gift to God’s people and a reflection of God’s goodness. Prayers of praise for creation and commitment to care are introduced as ways of responding to this gift. The story of Noah and the Ark is presented to the children. It tells of the renewal of creation and God’s promise of blessing the whole of creation throughout time.

English

Reading fluency and Reading comprehension:

The children will be developing skills and strategies to read words accurately and automatically. We will develop their ability to read phrases consisting of 2 or 3 words aloud, in a rhythmic manner. Students will be using decodable readers in the classroom to assist them in their ability to blend words.

Creating written texts:

The students will continue to practise recording sounds they hear in words as well as writing high frequency words to form sentences. We are emphasising writing left to right across the page, leaving spaces in between words, capital letters (including proper nouns) and punctuation (full stops, question marks, exclamation marks). We will continue to undertake daily writing using draw, talk, write, share to help the children build simple sentences.

Spelling and Phonemic awareness:

The students will begin Phase 2 of the ‘Sound Waves Spelling’ Program. In this phase, students learn how to write the sounds we learnt in Term 1 using the letters of the alphabet. You can support your child’s progress throughout this phase by listening to them read their decodable readers nightly and continue to model reading to them. In addition to this, the children may practise their sounds by using the online Soundwaves Program (access code will be included in the Homework Pack and is glued behind the front cover of their reading log).

Oral Language and Communication:

In Kindergarten, students learn to listen attentively, follow directions and express themselves fluently in complete sentences. The children will present their news to the class weekly. Each child will have an allocated news day to present their news based on the topic for the week. A note will be sent home in your child’s Term 2 Homework pack.

Mathematics

In Term 2, students will continue to develop their early mathematical concepts. They will use the counting sequence of ones flexibly, which includes counting forwards to 30, counting backwards from 20 and identifying numbers one less and one more.

Throughout the term students will be learning to:

  • describe and compare lengths using mathematical language
  • count, order and compare collections to 20 and match them to numerals
  • ask simple questions to gather information to create simple data displays
  • combine and separate numbers up to 10 e.g. 6 and 4 make 10
  • compare the areas of shapes by superimposing and superpositioning them
  • copy, continue and create patterns

Science and Technology

This term the students will focus on living things, their characteristics, needs, behaviours and environments in which they live. Students will investigate the basic needs of humans, animals and plants.

Geography

The students will continue to participate in the unit titled ‘People Live in Places.’ This term, they explore how and why people, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, look after places. They will learn how the location of places can be represented with maps and will develop their own mapping skills.

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

Students will participate in a Physical Education Program with Miss Reid every Wednesday. Miss Reid will be focusing on developing gross motor skills including running, static balance, vertical jump and catching. Students will also be learning some Indigenous games to promote appreciation and cultural awareness. Students will also be a part of the De La Salle coaching program on Tuesdays. Year 9 and 10 PASS students will instruct Kindergarten through sport rotations during this time developing their gross motor skills.

Creative Arts

Our specialist Music teacher, Mr Palato will teach Music to Kindergarten classes each Wednesday. In Visual Arts, students will be using a variety of techniques to create artworks using different media including oil pastels, watercolours and collage. The artworks will be based on ANZAC Day, Mother’s Day, our English literature and our Religion unit on Creation. They will continue to explore the use of warm and cool colours.

Mandarin

Our students will participate in the Chinese language program called the Meg Language Program. The Meg Curriculum is written by the co-author of the Australian Curriculum. All students and teachers will participate in the digital learning platform via Zoom weekly sessions with educators in China.

Homework

Kindergarten will begin Homework in Week 2. Homework will consist of daily reading, tricky words and counting work. Further information will be sent home at the beginning of Week 2.
