Spanish
This Term, we are excited to dive deeper into Spanish! Students have begun by building our daily class routine and taking part in "la bola curiosa" ("the curious ball"), a fun activity to practice asking and answering questions in Spanish. These activities are helping everyone feel more confident and ready to speak Spanish from the beginning of each lesson. Over the Term, we will continue learning new words and expressions through games, rotations, movement activities, and creative tasks, making Spanish a fun and active part of the week.
Students will continue learning Spanish through games, songs, movement activities, and daily routines. This term, we will focus on basic greetings, personal introductions, colours, and simple classroom instructions. Learning through play and movement will help students stay motivated, engaged, and confident when using Spanish.
In Grade 3/4, students will review basic vocabulary such as colours and will learn how to take part in simple conversations in Spanish. They will practice giving and asking for personal information, including their name, age, and where they are from. Games, rotations, and speaking activities will support their learning in an active and enjoyable way.
Students in Grade 5/6 will work on creating personal profiles in Spanish, including descriptions of physical appearance, personality traits, and hobbies. Through games, rotations, and activities like "la bola curiosa," students will be encouraged to overcome shyness or hesitation and feel more confident speaking Spanish in front of others.
Would you like to boost your child's Spanish learning in a simple way? You can try labelling familiar objects at home (like puerta for door, or mesa for table), using greetings at different times of the day (such as ¡Buenos días! or ¡Buenas noches!), practicing numbers in daily routines, and naming colours when you see them. Every little bit of Spanish practice helps!
