From our Principal

Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers
Welcome back to Term 2 – another action-packed term in the life of the College.
Catholic Identity
We activate identity and mission through Catholic Social Teaching and affirming the dignity and inclusion of all.
Pope Francis
“Death is not the end of everything, but the beginning of something we have never fully lived before: eternity” (Pope Francis, 7 February 2025).
The death of Pope Francis is a moment of profound significance for the global Catholic community and for the world as a whole. As a spiritual leader known for his humility, compassion, and unwavering commitment to justice and mercy, his passing invites us to reflect on the gift of his life and to come together in prayerful remembrance.
Today, we mourn the passing of Pope Francis – a humble servant, a courageous shepherd, and a true Pilgrim of Hope. In his life, he showed us how to look beyond division, beyond fear, and beyond self-interest, choosing instead the path of mercy, justice, and joy.
Like Mary, he walked close to the margins, always with eyes lifted toward what is possible in God. In his words and witness, he reminded us that faith is not static – it walks, it risks, it loves.
As Marists, we give thanks for his life – a life that continues to call us to journey with open hearts, to serve with tenderness, and to be signs of hope in our world.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, And may perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.
ANZAC Day
We met on ANZAC Day, not to glorify war or praise victors, but to remember those who have served our country during times of conflict and crisis, and to reflect upon their selfless sacrifice. ANZAC Day is a tradition, paid for in blood and celebrated in our freedom. In those terrible battles, young Australians earned a reputation for courage, resilience, self-reliance and mateship.
The experience drew Australians together as a nation and established the national character. The standards that they set and the ANZAC spirit, have been handed down ever since to all the Australian soldiers, sailors and airmen and women who followed them. This same spirit is represented among the diverse group of students.
Child Safety
We commit to sustaining and improving our child safe practices and culture.
Marist Basketball Carnival
The 2025 Marist Basketball Carnival proved to be an outstanding showcase of talent, teamwork, and determination for Marist-Sion College. Both the boys and girls teams delivered gutsy performances throughout the competition against strong opposition from across the country.
This year, the Marist Basketball Carnival brought together 34 teams from Marist schools across Australia, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and competitive excellence. We entered the tournament with high hopes but it was the moments of quiet perseverance and determination that came after the early losses that most impressed me. These are characteristic of Marist-Sion College students.
I would like to thank Head Coaches Mr Ben Gaze and Mrs Lexie Fenton for their expertise and passion, which were instrumental in the teams’ successes. A special thanks also to the assistant coaches and to the Team Managers, Mr Michael O’Keefe and Ms April Bethune for their invaluable assistance throughout the tournament.
These competitions highlight that we are a part of something much bigger across the Marist Network of schools nationally and internationally.
