Last Friday, the students of Burnie and Ulverstone campuses laced up their running shoes and took part in the annual Primary School Cross Country event. The sun was shining, (for a while) the field was marked, and excitement filled the chilly air as pupils from all year levels prepared to race.

The event kicked off with the Kinders, who showed incredible energy and determination as they completed their lap and hurdles. Year 6 leaders Bayleigh and Lydia say, “It was fun but tiring! We enjoyed running with lower primary and helping as leaders!”  Leaders Kaylee and Paiton also agree, “It was fun to run and help with the Kinders”. Theodore, Year 6 Carey Captain said, “Using the parachute for the Kinders was great fun!”

Cheers from teachers, parents, and classmates encouraged every runner across the finish line. As the day went on, older students took to the course, demonstrating not only speed, but perseverance and sportsmanship. Fletcher, Year 6 Luther Captain remarked, “I enjoyed the good attitudes of everyone and the team spirit”.

Teachers and staff were proud to see students supporting one another, with many stopping to help friends or cheer on classmates from the sidelines. The event wasn't just about winning—it was about doing your best, staying active, and having fun. Leeland, Year 6 Wesley Captain said he enjoyed “Persevering, by running without stopping” in his race.

Ribbons were awarded to top finishers in each age group, but every child went home with a smile and a sense of achievement. Thanks to the hard work of staff and volunteers, the day was a huge success.

We look forward to next year’s event and another chance to celebrate health, teamwork, and determination. Well done to everyone who took part!
