Grade 5/6 Zoo Ecursion

Last week the 5/6 students travelled down to Werribee Zoo to learn more about animal adaptations which is the focus for our Term 2 Inquiry unit. Some of the students have reflected on the day and thought about the things they learnt and what they saw.
The trip to the Werribee Zoo was pretty fascinating! We got to learn a lot about animal skulls, and if they were either prey or predator. We checked out the rest of the living things, and everyone got pretty excited and enjoyed the view of exotic animals. Later on, we got a chance to ride on the safari tour bus, and experienced watching rhinos, giraffes, antelope, zebras, ostrich and more! Everyone freaked out when the lady called out platypus– but sadly we didn’t see any. We left back to school shortly after the safari tour. I enjoyed the trip to the zoo and found it really interesting!

I really enjoyed going to Werribee Zoo because of the fantastic activities that we got to do. I enjoyed learning about how to tell if an animal is Predator or Prey and what each animal's hunting style was. A key part of the Werribee Zoo excursion was riding on the Safari Bus that took us around the park, and we saw Rhinoceros, Giraffes, Antelopes, Zebras and more! It was so cool getting to see them up close! It was great to see almost every animal at Werribee Zoo. It was a very fun day, and I have definitely learnt a lot from it!

I loved the trip to Werribee Zoo! We learnt about animal skulls and how to recognise a herbivore from a carnivore. We also got to go on a safari bus that went around a large grassland full of exotic animals such as zebra rhinos, giraffes. antelopes and some hippos. It was awesome. There was lots of shouting when one of the rhinos tried to intercept our bus! Afterwards, we took a break at the souvenir shop and left. It was very fun.

Going to the Werribee Zoo was such a great experience. Seeing all the animals we have been learning about and discussing up close gave us a really good insight into their adaptations, diets, habitats and more. We did many great activities, and the Safari Bus was definitely a highlight for me. On the bus trip, we got to see a rhinoceros family, giraffes, antelopes, zebras and more! We talked about animals that are predators, prey or both and how we can tell. I am sure we all picked up a lot of new information and had a fantastic time!
