Spotlight on Learning Waratah 3&4

In Waratah 3 and 4, we have been focusing on reading, partitioning, and regrouping numbers up to 1 billion. Regrouping and partitioning numbers are important skills that allow us to mentally calculate numbers more efficiently. Students have been practicing this through playing maths games such as 'Go Fish' and 'Hit the Target,' which allow them to apply their learning.

In Geography, we have been learning about how bushfires affect animals, people, and the environment. This week, we learned about the difference between a natural hazard and a natural disaster. We also explored the impact that the 2009 Victorian bushfires had on the state and why it was called 'the weekend from hell'.

Bonus feature: Our wonderful gardener, Chris, has helped us turn our balcony into an oasis. Students working on the balcony are able to enjoy the plants during literacy groups and maths activities.
