Education week - Open morning

Next week the department of education celebrates Education Week, an opportunity for our school to share with you how we work with our students ensure they are active and engaged learners.  Come and join us for an open morning next Monday May 17 from 9 – 11am.  We are proud of our school and of how our students show our values as they learn.  We invite you to visit us in the classroom and join in the learning.  We hope to see you there.

Election BBQ and Cake Stall

Would 1200 sausages laid end on end go all the way around our oval?  That's how many sausages were sold at our federal election BBQ, along with a mountain of egg and bacon rolls and more cakes than a patisserie could hold.  A huge thank you to all our volunteers who helped out on the day or baked items for sale, with a particular thank you to the parents and friends association for organising the event.  We were able to raise just over $7000, a magnificent result.  The funds will go towards our Yellow Park playground upgrade, with juniour school councillors now beginning to consult their peers about what we want the new playground to look like.  The day itself is a great community event, I'm proud that so many local citizens can come into our school and experience the environment our students learn and play in.  

Art show works on display

Our art show last year was truly spectacular.  The creativity and application our students were able to demonstrate was a joy to experience.  We have been working to display as much of this work as we can around our school.  This week two significant pieces were hung in the stairwells in the Old Building.

It is important the school environment reflects the work of current students, I am really enjoying seeing so much of their artwork around our school. 

Lunch order service procurement update

I would like to provide an update regarding the school's efforts to secure a lunch order service provider.  The working group has consulted with community and drafted an expression of interest that reflects what we want in a lunch order service for our students.  This EOI has now been advertised.  Once the obligatory advertising time has passed we can move forward with selecting a preferred provider for school council to consider.  We are hopeful of having a provider secured before the end of this Term.  I would like to thank the members of this working party for the time they are volunteering, their efforts will help us identify the best provider for our school. 

Working Bee May 31

On Saturday May 31, the school will be holding a working bee, from the morning to early afternoon.  Our grounds sub-committee have been working hard on our aim to continually green our school grounds, with significant planting projects planned for later this year.  This coming working bee will focus on preparations for this planting.  The jobs we aim to complete are:

• Removing the wooden crates from the orchard garden area
• Mulch the Sheffield Street boundary in preparation for planting
• Re-filling the Pearson St and Albion St sand pits
• Re-staking the larger tress in our native gardens

Working bees are always great community events, with many a friendship formed over a wheelbarrow of mulch or while pulling out weeds.  We hope to see you there.
