Summary of the ANZAC Day Ceremony - by Edwin B and Abby A (B5)
On the 24th of April, the Brady Building students walked calmly, sensibly and quietly to the Miners Rest cenotaph. As we approached, you could hear a pin drop. We were guided to our spots. The choir got up to perform 'We Are Australian'.
Once the choir sat down, Mrs Nissen gave a speech on what ANZAC Day means to her. The student leaders spoke and placed a wreath of flowers on the cenotaph. Year 5/6 students then read their heartfelt poems for ANZAC Day. Every poem that was read, was loud and clear.
Next, the year 5/6's sang, 'I was only Nineteen'. Their voices were as powerful as a bell. Soon a bugle played and everyone fell silent. We stayed silent for one minute after. It was so we could remember the soldiers. People looked down. The ceremony soon ended. The Brady Building students entered school quietly. We felt a lot of emotions during the ceremony, including sadness. We believe on ANZAC Day we should all take a minute to remember the people who went to war.
