This week, fifteen of our Year 10 students successfully completed their White Card training—a significant step towards gaining real-world experience in the construction industry.
The White Card is a nationally recognised certification required for anyone wishing to work on a construction site in Australia. Completing this training ensures that students understand essential workplace health and safety protocols, enabling them to enter construction environments with the knowledge and awareness needed to stay safe.
This achievement comes just in time for Work Experience Week in Week 6, during which many of these students will be placed with construction companies and trades-based businesses. With their White Cards now in hand, they’re equipped to make the most of these placements—observing, assisting, and learning on-site alongside experienced professionals.
We commend these students for taking the initiative to pursue this opportunity and for their commitment to preparing for life beyond the classroom. Their efforts reflect not only individual ambition but also the school’s broader focus on practical, hands-on learning pathways.
We look forward to hearing about their experiences during Work Experience Week and seeing how this valuable training shapes their future interests and career choices.
We are excited to offer an incredible opportunity for female and gender diverse students in Years 10 to 12 to attend the Trade Fit Expo on Tuesday 3rd June.
The Trade Fit Expo is a dynamic, hands-on event designed to empower and inspire students to explore pathways in traditionally male-dominated industries such as construction, automotive, electrical, plumbing, engineering, and more. With interactive displays, demonstrations, and the chance to speak directly with industry professionals and apprentices, it’s a fantastic way to discover what a future in trades and technology could look like.
There is no entry cost for the expo, but we may ask for a small contribution to cover transport. We are currently deciding between hiring a coach or travelling by train, depending on the number of interested students.
If you are curious about the trades, enjoy practical learning, or are thinking about a VET or apprenticeship pathway, we strongly encourage you to register your interest! For any students who are interested in attending, please complete the following form by Wednesday 7th of May: https://forms.office.com/r/PCvqpgcxn1
We continue to meet with many of our Year 12 students to look at pathway options. In every meeting, we look at VTAC CourseSearch – the one-stop shop for students to explore tertiary courses. We show students how to use the function and explore courses of interests at different institutions, pointing out important information such as ATAR requirements and pre-requisite subjects, as well as majors available and a general overview of the course.
We encourage students to explore the course further on individual institution websites once they have found some of interest. Attached below is a fact sheet on how to use VTAC CourseSearch. We encourage students to begin exploring courses now, so that they can attend Open Days in July and August and make a truly informed decision later in the year as they enter their preferences.
Reminders for Year 9 and 10 students
Year 9 – For students who are yet to finish their Morrisby profiling, please log on to www.morrisby.com and complete this as soon as possible. If any students have not yet registered, please contact Mrs Dennison or Mr Knowles and we will help you with this process.
Year 10 – Work Experience is being held from Monday 26th – Friday 30th of May. We are in the process of following up with students who are missing information from their Work Experience Arrangement Forms. If any students have not submitted forms and still wish to do work experience, please contact Mrs Dennison or Mr Knowles. Any students who are not participating in work experience will be required to attend school for an alternative program.
