ANZAC Day Assembly
On Wed 23 April, we held our annual ANZAC Day assembly, attended by the whole school and some of our parent community, to honour the memory of all those lost due to conflict and those currently serving.
We laid a wreath and represented the College student cohort. Our special guests, Vietnam Veteran John Coleson, and Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran, Sergeant Chris May gave very moving and thoughtful talks about their personal experiences, the ANZAC Spirit and how this impacts our relationships today.
Dimitre Gosios played the Last Post for the second year, which was followed by a minutes silence. This was very moving.
Salford Park Ceremony
On ANZAC Day, we had the privilege of attending Salford Park Community Retirement Village to participate in their ANZAC Day ceremony. We laid a wreath in honour of the ANZACs, all past and present members of the Armed Forces, and all services that display the ANZAC spirit.
Year 11 student, Blake Mackenzie played the Last Post and Rouse, and we also heard from Carla Evans, Vet Ministry Chaplain, about her experiences in supporting Vietnam Veterans and the impact that war has had on their lives. Afterwards, Carla kindly donated a book that she has written on these experiences to the Wantirna College library.
We were very honoured to play a part in both of these very special ANZAC Commemoration Services.
