Learning & Teaching

Welcome Back to Term 2
Curriculum Day this week was very successful with much teacher planning and professional development. Our focus was on what is known as the science of learning and how teachers can use their understanding of the learning process to maximise learning. Here is a snapshot of the learning process that is common to every learner:
Attention is the currency of the classroom and what students attend to, and focus on, is ultimately what they end up learning about. That's why we have started our teaching and learning reset with a focus on student attention. Teachers will use cues (verbal and visual) to ensure all students pay attention, as well as other engagement strategies to ensure high levels of active participation from the students.
In assemblies this week, we shared our vision of high engagement and participation with students and spoke about the learning skills necessary for students to display these skills
I am excited and energised by this vision and work. I am confident that, over time, we will see this increased participation and attention translate into greater learning gains for all our students.
