We’re excited to continue our involvement in Children's Book Council of Australia's (CBCA) Shadow Judging Program. Students will be reading and evaluating books from the CBCA Shortlist, and learning how to assess themes, writing, and illustrations like a real book judge. It’s a great way to build critical thinking and get students engaging more deeply with literature. If you are interested in joining in or sharing a review, we’d love to hear from you!
Did you know that reading for fun is four times more influential on a teenager's intellectual development than having a parent with a university degree?
Engaging in regular reading not only boosts academic performance but also enhances mental health and self-esteem. In fact, 74% of children agree that reading helps them understand the world better.
However, recent studies reveal a decline in recreational reading among Australian teens, with many facing distractions from digital media and other activities.
To counter this trend, initiatives like the CBCA Shadow Judging Program are vital. They provide students with opportunities to engage deeply with literature, fostering critical thinking and a lifelong love for reading.

As the days get colder, the library is the perfect place to take a break, stay warm, and enjoy an exciting environment. We have plenty of cosy reading nooks, soft seating, and loads of books to curl up with. It’s also a great space for reading, studying, games, or catching up with friends.
We’ve had a delivery of fantastic new titles—fresh fiction, compelling non-fiction, graphic novels, and more. Whether students are into mystery, sports, fantasy, real-world issues or something funny and light-hearted, there’s something waiting on the shelf. Pop into the library to see our New Books display.
Did you know we have a collection of lunchtime games available? You are welcome to drop by and play classics like Uno, chess, Connect 4, or even have a go at building something with the Lego sets we have on hand. It’s a great way to take a brain break, build social skills, and have fun away from screens. We’re always adding to our collection, so suggestions are welcome!
