Hello from 6P

6P – 3D shapes and Cross Sections

Over the past few weeks, 6P have been exploring the mathematical concept of cross-sections in three-dimensional shapes. They began by revising a range of 3D shapes and their properties, building a strong foundation for deeper investigation. They have made shapes with play dough and cut through the middle to find the cross-section shape.

6P have learned how to identify cross-sections that are parallel, perpendicular, and diagonal to the base of a shape. Through this, they have come to understand that a single 3D shape can reveal a variety of different cross-sectional shapes, depending on how and where it is sliced.

To finish the unit, the students used a 3D building game to create a variety of 3D shapes using cards to guide them.
