Playing in Eastern Gardens, our first game vs Grovedale started with a rain delay, but as the players were keen to get the game started, we reduced the game to a 10 over match and braved the light drizzle. We lost the toss and Grovedale sent us into bat – many of the girls learning how to pad up and face a leather ball for the first time ever! We struggled to get runs on the board against a more experienced Grovedale lineup, finishing with a total of 5/20 - top scorers Gabby (8), Ruby (4) and Clem (4). Grovedale easily reached our score, but we agreed to keep the game going – which allowed wickets to Ruby (2/ 11) and Charli (1/4). A tough start!

Match two vs Bellarine showed a big improvement – again with us batting first. Our final total was 3/30 – with runs scored by Ayla (8), Charli (8), Anya (6), Miryam (4) and Gabby (3). The game went down to the wire, with Bellarine scoring the runs in the final over (4/31) despite a couple of quality runouts. Izzy and Ruby showed their cricket experience, with Ruby taking 1/5 and Izzy 1/6 – hitting the stumps to dismiss a player, as well as swapping to keeper in the second half of the game and taking a great catch behind the stumps!

All the students represented Belmont High well and I look forward to seeing a few more of them on the field in our local Women’s cricket competition in years to come. Well done - Charli, Izzy, Ayla, Ruby, Miriam, Clem, Gabby, Anya, Lily, Mia and Tessa.
