SCHOOL CROSSING SAFETY—Help us keep our kids safe

School crossings are located at some intersections, pedestrian light crossings and flagged children’s crossings in Geelong and the Bellarine areas.

There are a number of ways that you can help ensure the safety of pedestrians and school crossing supervisors alike.

Pedestrians

• Always stand behind the yellow/white line

• Wait behind the white line until the supervisor has clearly blown their whistle twice

• Do not ride bikes across the crossing, bounce balls or run. Walk safely

• Always cross at the crossing when it is in operation

Follow the directions of the supervisor.

Motorists

• Make sure you don’t park your vehicle within the ‘No Stopping’ signs whilst flags are dis-played, this impacts negatively on the visibility for both vehicles on the road and the crossing supervisor

• Slow down to 40km/h or less in designated school zones

• Obey parking restrictions

Parking around schools

The Parking Team try to attend all schools regularly throughout the term allowing them to monitor parking around the schools. This process is both proactive attendances and also responding to complaints from generally people living in the area, parents/family of school attendees and also on occasion from school crossing supervisors. This is achieved by 2 officers driving around the school and surrounding streets checking the parking situation and photographing any offences detected.
