Principal's Report

Fiona Mulhall - Acting Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

We conclude this week and the term with our Mission Fair Day. A great way to embody what it means ‘To be on earth the heart of God’ by raising awareness and funds for the MSC Mission Office. During the Liturgy this morning, I shared some of my own immersion experiences travelling to Kiribati and remote areas in Northern Territory with students from Chevalier College, Bowral. For five years I visited Abemama, Kiribati and spent three weeks at our sister school.   I developed a deep love and admiration for people of Kiribati, who continue to face incredible challenges with increasing sea levels and tidal waves. Despite all these challenges, I was reminded of the importance of family, expressing gratitude and what matters most in life is ‘who you are - not what you do’. A life changing experience that has left a permanent imprint in my heart and mind.

Term 3 has provided many wonderful learning opportunities for our students inside and outside the classroom. It has been pleasing to see many students excel in sporting grand finals, National academic competitions, outdoor Ed camps and embrace additional support through the Tutor learning program. This break is a great opportunity to reflect on the learnings and consolidate knowledge and skills. We especially think of our senior students as they prepare for Units 3 & 4 VCE exams early term 4.

The Monivae Board have endorsed the Strategic Direction 2022 – 2028. Please see link below to a copy of the document which includes stakeholder statements and outlines seven strategic directions the College is committed to. The document can also be found on our website and via PAM Knowledge Banks.  This work will ensure we remain focussed on the growth and evolution of Monivae – a journey you are all part of.

Student Captains and Vice Captains for 2024

Most recently, the Year 11 students answered the call to leadership and applied for various leadership roles in the college. This involved completing an application process and participation in interviews. I am excited to announce our college Captains for 2024 are Tana Nedziwe and William McAdam, our Vice Captains are Lucille Aarons and Riley Casey. We wish them the very best in preparing for such important roles in leadership and trust they will lead the College with determination, spirit and grace. Additional leadership positions will be announced early next Term.

This month is the Season of Creation. The theme is: ‘Let Justice and Peace Flow’ Prophet Amos cries out: “But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” (Amos 5: 24) and so we are called to join the river of justice and peace, to take up climate and ecological justice, and to speak out with and for communities most impacted by climate injustice and the loss of biodiversity.

As the people of God, we must work together on behalf of all Creation, as part of that mighty river of peace and justice. (Source https://seasonofcreation.org/

Pope Francis calls each of us to be stewards of the earth ‘hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor’ (49 Laudato Si) to act with compassion, concern for the environment in all aspects of our life.

God of Life,

You love the universe into being,

Let us give praise.

You embrace the world without distinction,

Let us give thanks.

You call humanity to make flesh Your tenderness,

Let us live accordingly.

You endow all creation with Your divine beauty and wisdom,

 Let us acknowledge.

You forgive all trespasses.

Let us learn Your ways.

 You grace us unconditionally,

Let us receive humbly.

You are our hope,

 Let us remember.

Amen.
